is this normal.....smoke

My friend was driving behind me the other day and said when I got on it my car would give some black smoke in the higher rpm's around when I was about to shift. I told him I think it's because I am still Speed Density so I run ritch in the higher rpm's. Was I right or is there something wrong with my car.

Black smoke = fuel
Blue smoke = oil

I'd say it's running a tad rich in higher RPMs. Seems like a lot of high mileage SD cars do.

I knew it was fuel...I heard that SD cars do run a little ritcher than mass air

You know, I havent seen many mustang fox's that dont blow out some black smoke in the upper rpms...I wouldnt concern yourself with it, probably all good.

sbf 302 have a very high ramp rate, and i believe this is why they dump raw fuel on the shift changes at higher rpms...if i remember correctly. its becomes much more noticeable when running w/o cats. mine has done since day 1 even with the stock rebuilt motor.

*oh and yes i meant for the black smoke....

My SD engine used to have some black smoke in the upper RPMS until I rebuilt the engine now its gone... The more miles I put on the car the worse the black smoke got.

the backfiring is probably an exhaust leak, mine was backfiring bad and it turns out I had a missing header bolt

nope mine blows black smoke high up as well, I think it looks cool when your roasting people and shifting lol....

mine blows plenty of smoke...but its blue. about a quart a week too...time for the 351 swap

when I got it...55k...now it has 117k.

It's been the same since I had it...just a lil black smoke in higher RPMs.

when mine was still sd it would black smoke a little at high r's. that was until i blew a headgasket and it was all white. mass air now on a fresh motor and just a touch at high r's. your fine, no worries.
