lock cylinder housing

im not sure what its called but the thing connected to the steering column and has the ignition switch attached to it broke. The gears inside are broken so my lock cylinder doesnt turn. I removed the steering wheel but ther is some type of bearing preventing me from getting the lock cylinder housing off. Does anyone know how to take it off

Two options here. There is a small pin that allows you to remove the cylinder but you have to have the ignition turned to the run position to depress the pin. Since you can't turn the cylinder though, your next and just about only option is to use a slide hammer. Have a good time...
 
or try a punch and hammer (being cognizant of the fact that you are beating on the whole column) on the pin. it might only take a light tap since the innards are jacked.

or you could try a screwdriver in the key slot to get it to the run position. :)
