A friend of mine had an escort just like yours 5speed wiht the 1.8 mazda motor. He put a homemade exhaust and cold air on it and got a short throw and he ran low 16's which is respectable for what it was. And it was dead reliable and knocked down great gas mileage.

WHAT A DOUCHE!!!! I made an appointment with him this morning for 545 PM since that was when he gets home from work, on the dot. I called him at 540 saying I was in route and he lets me know he sold it a little bit ago... WTF??!?!?! No respect whatsoever. I spent a majority of the afternoon adjusting finances and going to the bank for cash and he pulls this ****....prick.

/rant sorry 25th I know its your thread.

No worries, I know how you feel. Had a line on a piano. Messaged the guy about 5 minutes after posted online. I email back and forth the earliest time to see it. His last email said his afternoon opened up and I could go see it. I called within a minute or two of getting that email, and he tells me he sold it... Not sure his intentions, but there physically wasn't enough time to actually sell it, between the email and my call.

I bought my first nice daily last year. A $12,9xxx out the door F-150. Rubber floor, crank window, and plain radio. A few before that had been in the $350 range subarus. I like my truck, but I really liked the sub $500 beaters.

Yeah that kind of stuff frosts my balls when that happens!!!:mad::mad:

Holy crap! That was my first car when I was 16! Except mine was a red notch. I remember burning up the clutch while ripping donuts on the football field, and barely limping it home (dont ask). You are absolutely right what a POS they were. Once they were about 5-6 years old they were notorious for the drivers door hinge failing out of alignment and the fender and door would get a bashed together. Mine was no different. And YES they were slow as balls. I had to drive that thing all the way thru HS until the summer after graduation, which sucked, but that pile frequently would be filled with 7 other kids besides me (dont ask again, lol) and the engine never quit. Never seen anyone drive the same POS as I did until now.

I paid $200 cash for this beast here. Nissan s12 (200sx). 2.0l 4 cyl, 2 plugs per cylinder (race ready :nice:)
No stereo, windows sucked and it smelled like ****. IRS rear was not good for the burnouts :D But it got me to work for a few weeks on like 3 gallons of gas. Got rid of it when some ricer offered me $500 for it.
It ran a 19 sec Quarter FROM a 20 ROLL out on a country road.
Easily the slowest POS ive ever owned or driven. But it was great to have something to just rip the piss out of. 8k clutch dump and shifting past red line (wherever that was). Ill never knock someone for having a beater, although yours looks much nicer than mine was.

I wish I still had my first car. 91 GMC Sonoma, 4cyl, 5spd, no power anything, no AC, no radio, vinyl bench seat that was worn out, 5 different colors, not counting the rust. I beat the absolute hell out of that thing and didn't have one single problem with it until the day the bed slid out on some ice and I hit the only tree in sight for miles.

My driver door and fender had their meeting. A slim crow bar fixed that.

The one thing about the Escort, is it is not slow. It is NOT fast by any stretch of the imagination, but it is not slow. It might be the weight, coupled with the manual trans, but the car goes alright. I have only floored it two times. Once with my brother and father in it, and one time on a fun little rip, with a few powershifts (I was told stock clutch, NOT doing that anymore) and the car moves pretty well.

135 miles on the tank, just below 3/4. Not sure why the vacuum gauge reads so low, which might prevent good mileage, but I think I will grab some starter fluid and look into it some more.
