Well, looks like I'm moving from the 4.6 section to here. Im trading my 2000 GT thats blown up, plus my 03' gixxer 750 for a 1994 Cobra convertible with a 347 crate motor. 500 something on the dyno. It has a 2003 cobra front bumper and cowl hood. What side skirts, rear bumper, and wing should I go with? Nothing ricey, nice and clean looking. Also need a good tonnea cover for the rear seats, a good roll cage, and it needs lowered, so need tips on suspension mods. Thanks guys

I hate to say it, but it sounds like you're getting ripped off. I'd keep the 2000, sell the bike to finance the new engine, call MMR and order a shortblock, and head to Corral's classifieds for a used blower. You'd probably end up paying a little more than you'd get out of the bike, but you'd have a faster, newer car that doesn't have a ticking timebomb for an engine if they used a factory block. This is just my opinion though.

    347 Crate Engine > 4.6

Cervinis makes really good side skirts I was just on their site yesterday looking them up. Steeda makes nice wings for our cars as well.

MMR800 shortblock + bone stock PI heads, and power adder of choice > stock block 347 crate engine

Good point but that's not what he has. I think hes better off sticking w/ the 94 Cobra. Even w/ selling the Gixer thats not enough to fund that engine combo you put together. Hell its not eeven enough to buy a power adder

he ordered the motor though. Its a 347 crate pushing 500+ HP all motor, and its not the stock block. my bike is only worth about $3,000.

exactly, that's not even enough to buy a power adder plus there is the whole issue of another engine which will not be cheap. Stick w/ the 94 as long as its in good shape and was taken care of. Sounds like its got a killer power plant and your going to spend quite a bit more building another 4.6 engine that would equal it.

I talked to the guy. Motor was from D&D Motorsports in CA. Heres my convo between me and him..

him: And anyone that has told you otherwise will be eating their words when you destroy them on the track.
XxMustang281xX: ok. im hearing alot about these motors being "ticking time bombs"
him: Haha. thats bs man. its actually funny. my engine is strong as hell and definitly one of the nicest i've ever even seen, and i've been in the car busi
him: ness for a long time. a 302 is one of the most reliable engines ever built, and a 347 is directly based off a 302. whoever your talking to is uneducate
him: d. my best friend that built this car with me works directly for ford engines out of detroit.
XxMustang281xX: well thats why they are saying that, because its based off a 302, which doesnt do well after 500hp
him: Thats why my car isn't a 302. and it never was. its not a bored over 302, its a crate engine that is a 347 block stock. its .060 thousands over a 302
him: when it was built, and its forged and stroked.
him: Mustang driver magizine has it rated as the best ford engine to date.
him: The cam, lifters, valves, and heads, and internal forging make it a 347. it has everything.

that guy doesn't seem like he knows what he is talking about. what makes it a 347 is the throw of crank and size of the bore.

and he says that 347 is based off a stock block that is bored .060" over which is the limit for as far as one should go. .030 over is generally how far people feel safe going and results in a stronger block. that said, if you stay n/a with it and don't max out the rpms, it would probably be ok, but if i were driving it, i'd worry about it breaking every time i opened it up.

is this a daily driver for you or an "every once in a while" car?

me ... i'd stay away from this guy and stick with the 2000, sell the bike, and get a stock 4.6 motor out of a totalled stang from somewhere like here:

Prestige Mustang Parts - Your #1 source for used antique and late model Mustang parts.

or get a 5.4 out of something and put that in like low-50 did with his friend

Ask him for the casting numbers off the block. It doesn't matter if it was ever built and run as a 302, if it's a factory Ford 302 block and it's over 450-500 HP, it's pushing the block's structural limits. There's just not enough mass along the main webbing and they crack.

There's no such thing as a 347 block. It's a 302 based stroker. A .060 over stock block? Hope he had that thing sonic tested, or in addition to cracked mains, you might have cracked cylinder walls, too! If he thinks that a 302 bored .060 is 347, he's way off. 4.060" x 4.060" x 3" .7854 x 8 does not equal 347 CI. 310, yes. (bore x bore x stroke x .7854 x number of cylinders = cubic inches)

The cam, lifters, valves, and heads have absolutely nothing to do with the cubic inch displacement. This guy even thinking it does makes me cringe. He knows nothing about engines, whatsoever. I'd run, as fast as humanly possible from this guy!

any more info on said 94? the engine combo or anything at all? it might help us better gauge the trade and the worthiness of it. as far as suspension, its all the same as the 2000 you have now. the body stuff, the sky's the limit. look at abcexclusives, cervini, saleen to get some ideas.

WOW! If that was the conversation from the seller I'd be running away from that deal. I'd love to see the entire heads/cam/intake combo on that thing if it makes 500hp.

Is this a local car? I assume not. Also, were not all '94 cobra's pace cars? I'd check the VIN to make sure it is a cobra before getting it as well.

Not all 94's are pace cars.

Guy does sseem like a tool after hearing him talk about the car. Every 347 is a 302 its just been stroked out. No one makes a specific 347 block, its not like a 351

"him: when it was built, and its forged and stroked"

So I guess that means when the parts fly out of the block they will be less likely to break when they hit the pavement? 500rwhp and 302 stroker is asking for it. But now he is saying it is 500 total HP..still too far in my book?..which is it?

Seems to me... that this guy thinks that all you have to do to build a stroker engine... is to shave the sidewalls and add more piston.... Guess the Stroke has nothing to do with a stroker...
