I don't really know what forum to post this in so I just did it here. I used to be a Mustang guy but had a change of heart a few years ago. I don't want to ask this question on a GM board because it will be biased and most likely they will quote wrong times. Friend of mine has an 07 GT with the following mods: tune, CAI, control arms, x pipe, exhaust, and 3.90's I believe. We want to just go out and race for ****s and giggles to see who will win. I have a 1997 Firehawk that has every bolt on imaginable and I am spraying it too. I have some M/T's mounted on some 15x10 Prostars but I am going to keep my Nitto NT555R's in a 315/35R17 on the car just to even things up a bit. (He is running 295 Eagle Supercars) Now, all motor, I ran a 13.4 and on a 150 shot I ran a 12.00000001 HAHA I was soo pissed I couldn't get into the 11's. Should I run him all motor? 50 shot? 100 shot? I have no idea what these newer mustangs run with those mods.
Well, if your friend can drive, he's probably going to run 12.7 - 13.2 with those mods, depending on conditions.
12.7-13.2 may be possible if he had sticky tires. I've heard the Eagle F1's are pretty bad on drags. That said, if driver ability is equal, I would say you have the upper edge even without the spray.
Well, Motor Trend got a 13.5 in the quarter with a stock 2005 GT. So assuming same conditions as MT, your friend can drive as good as the MT drivers, and your driving skill is the same as when you ran the 13.4, he will likely edge you out if you run all motor. I'd say using just the 50 shot will give you the edge you need, barring any driving mishap or anomoly.
If you're not sprayin' then you'll be cryin. I think you should just junk that thing and come back to the real deal, we won't hold your past indiscretions against you! Just a guess but I think that with the 50 shot he MIGHT keep it close but any more and you smoke him easy.
What the hell's a firehawk? I haven't even seen 3.90's available for sale for the 8.8 GT rear. Maybe he has 4.10's or 3.73's? His car should do at least 13.00.
pontiac's limited edition firebird, motive gears makes 3.90 for the 8.8 they have been around for awhile, thats what i plan on getting 3.90 because i will soon be going f/i
I see. You can't get them from FRPP though can you? They're the only gears I've been able to set up that are quiet.
There is nothing wrong with Motive gears I’ve run them in every mustang I’ve owned. 3:90's are a nice gear ratio for a DD... have a set of Motive Performance Racing 3:90's waiting to be installed now in my 05. Most people like ford gears for ford cars which is completely understandable but to hear some say Motive gears will whine is only imo because they are having the install done by people who have installed FRPP gears before. Anyone who installs a set of FRPP gears can do it again with out a whine issue. A good ring and pinion man can set the proper backlash and tolerances on any gear set in any rearend. Now Richmond gears for some reason... don’t ask why because I don’t have an answer... I’ve had problems with gear whine and stay away from them. Man I hope this doesn’t start a flaming problem... not my intentions this has been discussed countless times and it is just my 2cfm’s.
On stock tires with just o/r h, canned 93 C&L tune, and cai I went 12.9 @ 108. 13.2's all day long every day though. 12.7 with his mods is VERY possible if he can drive and get traction. Oh, and so I don't get the BS flag pulled on me, here is a vid of it (this happened back in november there is a thread on here somewhere) http://youtube.com/watch?v=BRq2eXomE28
Thanks guys. We went from a dig and I had him by about 1 car or less. It was a very close race. I won off the line, he spun bad and at the top of 2nd going into 3rd he started to gain some on me but then quit and couldn't keep up anymore. It was A VERY close race. BTW, he has Ford Racing 4.10's in the car.
You're not starting anything hear. I've always used FRPP and have heard from others to make sure the part number on a set of FRPP gears does not end with an ''M'' because that means Motive made them even though they are a Ford Racing part. Some guys have complained about it. I'd bet the Motive gears would be quieter if set up slightly different, but I don't want to find out. FRPP gears have been the most consistent for me.......no tight spots in the rotation of the ring gear like I've seen in others. I've never once installed a new set of Motive gears, so I really have no personal experience with them other than removing a set or 2 for a gear ratio change.
