Hey so i have a 89 fox body lx 5.0 ho and i have an aftermarket a/c unit and flowmaster exhaust but the mufflers have pipes in place of them. My car will throw a check engine light randomly and it seems to be when i decelerate from around 2k rpms and sometimes it goes away at idle aswell. I dont know if its from the aftermarket a/c unit, that whens i started noticing the light, could possibly be vaccum? im not sure. but i also read that more free flowing exhaust could do that too but i still have the cats in my car. if anyone has tips on what to look for would appreciate the input, thanks.

Usually the code is emissions related. Ac wouldn't do it, and rarely would exhaust with cats.

Run the codes. There are cheap scanners and paper clip method. It's a frequent topic so if you search you'll easily find the how to

Dump codes sticky

Look at the top of the 5.0 Tech forum where the sticky threads are posted. One of them is how to dump the computer codes. Codes may be present even if the CEL (Check Engine Light) isn’t on. You don’t need a code reader or scanner – all you need is a paper clip, or if your lady friend has a hair pin, that will do the job.
I highly suggest that you read it and follow the instructions to dump the codes. http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/threads/how-to-pull-codes-from-eec4.889006/
