Mercon is what is called for. You will find that there are lots of fluids that are reated as both Mercon or Dexron III. Any of those fuilds will be fine.
i personally have redline gear oil in mine, i havent had any problems with it,+ my mechanic recommended it he said it would make it shift better and make it quieter

I have heard a few different answers about friction modifiers along with the mercon. Some say yes, others say not because the tranny needs a little friction to work properly. Anyone else hear this?

Oh man.....are you sure it's gear oil? Or is it "MTL"? Gear oil is NOT good for T-5's. Redline actually makes a fluid designed for manuals that require ATF....it's Called D4, I run it in mine.
anyone running redline in a old tranny that doesnt like to go in second easy? if so does it help it out? cuz i got a little grinding goin on sometimes and it likes to pop out of second rarely when i put it in at a slow speed...
