Yesterday I had my my coil overs pulled out and went back to stock springs because of the annoying rattle that started after installing the coil overs. The thing is that I also installed new Strange Struts and used Maximum Motorsports C/C plates at the same time. So now I have the dreaded a 4x4 look again. I had read that other people have had issues with rattling from the combination of Strange Struts and Maximum Motorsports C/C plates, but I always thought my problem was the coil overs because they were inexpensive and from a less well known source. So ... the coil overs are out, and the rattle is still there. I really thought this would solve the rattling problem. I guess I'll check the struts and CC plates next. :frown: When I replace the struts, I think I'll have the coils cut to drop it a little. Anyone want to buy my MMR coil overs? email me if interested.
That sucks, and I wish I had the money for it right now b/c I would be interested but Ive dumped all my cash into other mods waiting to go on.
My C/C plates rattle... They are lifetime but in order to get them rebuild I have to send them back to be repaired (2-3 weeks is the estimate I was given at one point)... I don't want to park my car that long so I live with it.
Same issue here. I have the Strange Struts and dampners f/r and FRPP c/c plates. Rattles over every little imperfection in the road. I did a search and found that this is an issue with the Strange parts. If you use the stock c/c plates with the rubber isolaters it will eliminate the noise transferring to the strut towers. I have thought about going this route by opening up the holes to get the proper c/c adjustments. But, so far I just deal with the rattling by turning up the volume on the stereo!
have you checked to see if its because the top strut bolt isnt tight enough or if its because the diameter of the strut shaft isnt big enough
The shaft itself is smaller in diameter than the spacers for the c/c plates. Some people have used a tinfoil type tape to wrap around the shaft to shim it. Seems they had good results in taming the rattle. Didn't work for me though
where can i get this tape? the wierd thing for me is that the driver's side doesn't seem to rattle at all now, just the passenger's side also, if i got different struts, would that likely make the rattle go away?
Other's reported the rattling went away when they switched brands of struts. You should be able to get the tape at Lowes or HomeDepot. Its used for home furnance(sp?) air conditioner ducting. Only reason I am keeping the Strange struts is for their 10-way adjustability. I use it for switching from street to strip use. If my car was purely street I would replace these struts.
I hope it works for you... My KYB's fit snug, my noise is from play in the spherical joint on the CC plate...
