Figured I would start a thread for eveyone to share a lil story of how they came about gettin their car, why you like it and why you've continued to drop money in it. I'll start: I bought mine while lookin for a new car. My 84 Z28 was takin a major dump and needed a new one bad. I told my (now ex) wife that all I wanted was something that was V8, manual, Fuel Injected, and had A/C. A couple days later (and after she haggled them w/out me knowin) she talked 'em down to a price we could easily afford and I've been hooked ever since. The car has been nothing short of terrific to me. Never left me stranded or anything of the sort. 128,xxx on factory clucth, in the snow, or when I drove it for 2 days (sometimes hard) with coolant in the oil and no problems. Definitely, the best car I've ever owned. and a couple pix for the road... 5 mins. after she was mine... and what she looks like now...
Im liking the idea of the thread. I bought my car about a year ago from a guy i've known almost all my life. He bought this car for his son who is a few years older than I, and it ended up with his daughter who is about the same age as me. The guy told me he would be selling the Mustang sometime in the next year and that I would be the first to know. Low and behold, about 10months later, he calls me with a REALLY good deal. So like planned, I bought the car... pretty much 100% stock (Except for intake and AM thunder catback) the reason I've kept throwing money into it? I've loved Mustangs all my life, and when I finally got one.. I had pretty high dreams. haha. So here I am, still throwing money at it I cant for the life of me find the pics of the car on the first day.... with stockers and riding like a monster truck. Wheels and springs were the first to go. and I dont have any pictures of the car currently (Ive changed a bit of the outside reccently ) But here is a pic I took about 3months ago.
Only had mine about a year and a half now. It was spring of 2008, and the weather was just getting nice. I realized my 67 wasn't going to be ready for that summer, and after a long AK winter, I was looking for a toy. I found a really cool bike on C-list, for a great price. Called momma in to get her approval..."if you have to buy another car, buy a car. You're not getting a motorcycle!" Did she just order me to buy a car??? I started looking at 08 Bullitts, other options, but all were in the $25k and up range. I found the 95 on C-list; seller was original owner, only drove it in the summers, kept it in a heated garage under cover in winters. This thing looked new, and only had 57k miles on it. And the price was way better than anything else I was looking at. I've always liked the SN95 body style b/c they finally started bringing back the styling cues of the originals. And I wanted a 5.0. And I've always wanted a yellow one! It didn't look much different than it does now--Other than the lift kit, mud flaps, and cobra rims. Yeah, it really did have mud flaps. Looked hokey, but kept a lot of crap from hitting the paint. Right now the plan is to keep it forever. Momma likes to drive it on the nice days. When I get the 67 on the road, it will probably become my summertime DD, and I'll let her have the 95. I don't plan too many more mods; just some stuff to improve handling, braking, etc. I never planned to mod this car anyway; the idea was to give me something to drive until I got the 67 done. Sure, I dream about blowers, HCI, etc., but I'm not gonna do it...not gonna do it....I hope.
Well, I had a story typed up and I went to load some images and the page refreshed on me lol.. So here's the quick and dirty: Looked for over a year trying to buy a fox...found only junk in my pricerange. Gave in to my roots and bought an AWD DSM instead. Finally got the $ together to get a mustang again, wanted to get a 94-95. Looked at a few, a guy stiffed me at the DMV when I was supposed to buy this laser 95 GT for $3500. Got mad and quit looking. Had a friend call me on a whim about an 'orange' 94 for $2300. Called the guy expecting junk. Tried to lowball figuring it was a respray or the wrong year and it had high milage of 172k. He wouldn't budge and I showed up for ****s and giggles and ended up loving it as it was a Vibrant Red car that other than the dings here and there, seemed pretty decent and drove AWESOME. Dad bought jr a new 05 for graduation and they were offing the old 'junk'. Kinda recent pics Now with 30% and Steeda X2's Maybe future plans along with a fresh 306 or 331 Just a decent overview of the last few years of a birthday present to myself haha. Prolly shouldve bought the WS6 I had wanted or a C5 in retrospect and funds, but I built it. It looks killer IMO and should go deep 11s knocking on 10s when I'm all done with it Good thread!
When I got my license at 16, I wanted something reliable, maintenance free, and a truck. I had a ton of money saved from working 2 jobs, at around 70 hours a week for a year. My parents helped out a bit and I bought a brand new 07 Ford Ranger, base model with the 2.3 4 cylinder and a 5 speed. I drove it for a year and a half, putting almost 30k on the truck. I loved it to death, and had so many awesome memories in it, but I always had that itch for a Mustang - just didn't think I could afford the gas or insurance. I had just turned 18, when I started looking around local Autotraders and CL ads. In April of this year, I came across a laser red 95 GTS owned by an older guy who's had it since 2000. 86k, immaculate interior, immaculate engine/bay, and 7-8/10 exterior. I showed my girlfriend the ad, and instantly she said "I can see you in that!". I called him the next day, left my house an hour later to go check it out with my bandmate. As soon as I started up that bone-stock engine, I knew I had to have it - the sound just got me hooked. I talked it over with my parents and over the next week, I sold my truck back to the dealership taking a HUGE loss, but I didn't care. I knew that later that week, I'd be taking that beautiful Mustang home with me. The guy originally wanted 4,800 for the car but my father and I talked him down to 3,800. I paid the man his money, and he handed me the keys. I was ecstatic! I killed the first full tank of gas within 3 days, and that was driving like an absolute granny the whole time. I went anywhere I could think of going, and I loved every second of it. It's been 7 months since the purchase of my car, and it's been a road of maintenance, and wishing for the next few mods to just fall from the sky. I've made more memories in this car than I'll probably ever remember, and I love it. I didn't buy it to be the fastest, best looking, best corner carving car in the world. I bought it because since I was 6 years old I'd always wanted a Mustang.
i had a blue 2001 gt vert which i loved to death. it was totalled by a 16 yo girl who turned left across traffic right in front of me. they gave me $14k for it, which would not pay for another one like the one i had. i was really bummed. so i got a white mazda millenia which lasted about 3 months. it was actually a very nice car, but i realized it was not for me when one day i left work and got into a lexus by mistake because it and the millenia looked similar. i would never have mistaken my mustang for another car. funds were tight and i could not justify buying another new gt vert, so i got a black 1996 gt vert. it was ok, but too slow. so i got 4.10 gears which helped a little, but i hated how short 1st and 2nd were, and it was still too slow. so i dumped that and got the stang i have now. i keep putting money into it as opposed to getting something new because the new one would have to also be a gt vert, and i don't want to pay over 30 grand for a car when this one (which i love) can be fixed for much less. over the years, even with the 410 project and the headaches i have had with it, i am still way under 30 grand spent on it.
I had been away from the hot rod thing for several years I started to look for a Cherry Fox and My focus was zeroed in on 93 Notches My dear sweet mother got ahold of my best friend who is also a die hard Ford gear head She told him he had 2 weeks to find a Stang for my birthday Needless to say ....... he had no luck finding such a Stang with my very picky taste He told mom "Cherry 93 notches with a stick trans just wern't all that plentyful" He ran across a little 95 GT at one of the local dealerships that had just been offered as a trade in and the rest was histoy Mom took the family, my friend and wife all out to a nice bday meal and I was given the Stang after dessert Grady
Well, I guess I have two stories to tell, as I have two 'Stangs - a 94 Cobra clone and a 95 GT. The Cobra clone, as many of you may know, started its life as a 94 V6. My Grandpa bought it for me in 1997 and I never got to pay him back before he passed away in '99. So I am keeping my 94 forever, if I have any say in it. I bought the coupe around Xmas 97. My last car was a 87 Ford Taurus that kept breaking down on me. So I was looking for a car that was relatively new and had a warranty of some type to help insure I didn't buy a lemon. I poked around dealerships until I found the car. I admit I wasn't looking for a Mustang, but the price was in the right range. So I went for a test drive, and fell in love. It was certainly faster than my old Taurus and a lot more fun. I had my (now ex) girlfriend with me, and she was wearing a very low-cut top with no bra - the salesman just couldn't keep his eyes off of her. Maybe that's why I got such a good deal. But anyway, I took my Grandpa's money to the dealership on Xmas Eve. I surrendered my old Taurus and drove to my ex's place for Xmas in my new Mustang. The red GT doesn't have as good of a story. I had my old green GT, which had an AODE. I was debating on converting it to a T5 and repaint it red, or just sell it and buy a GT that had everything I wanted on it. I found a GT on eBay, which had everything I wanted on it, the price was pretty reasonable, and the car was a local car too. I won the 'Stang, met up with the couple selling it and they signed the title over. Then the adventure began - the power seat refused to move, and I need the seat all the way back (I'm 6'0"). No problem, right? Well, the friend that drove me over had no tools, so we had to drive around to find a store that carried tools. We swapped the power seat track with the manual one on the passenger seat, and we were off. Turns out someone had REVERSED the power seat track and managed to bolt it down, tweaking the track and locking it in place. The track didn't even fit right when reversed - who in their right mind would do that? Oh well.
Dang...this thead was cooler than I had planned it would be! Let's keep em comin guys! Plenty of cars on here with great stories behind them. (on a side note...HankyGT your car is just too damn cool makes me want to get my repainted asap! Vibrant FTW!)
My buddy decided to join the marines like i did,he managed to get stationed out where i did as well. he got a sign on bonus and wanted to buy a camaro...quickly talked him into buying a mustang using my god given talents of persuasion and he had me looking for a car in days i found one he likes...tried to keep him in the 5.0 era,was honestly wanting him to get a fox but he was edging towards a 99+ so we met in the middle and agreed that a sn95 was ideal...best of both worlds per say. Found a 95 Gt with 77,xxx miles and basically stock,it was also automatic bc he refused to learn to drive a stick (big vag i know) but whatever. kid wanted 6k for the car and looked clean so we went and drove to look at it. drove it,was nice and stock but felt strong. asked how he got it,his mom told me it was from his grandfather it was his car and he passed away few months prior and he didnt need it bc he was going to college to be a dentist or something rather,so i started my nick picking and offered them 4k cash right on spot. they accepted and my friend was +1 with mustang well i deployed and came back to find he didn't take care of the car very well in fact he didnt do anything to help it at all...left the window cracked in the sand storms,no car cover,garage etc. rear sway bar was broke,exhaust was hanging,harmonic balancer needed to be replaced,a/c stopped working and pass window didnt roll up or down anymore. on its last leg basically. he got orders to deploy about 2 days before i got news of a new baby on the way. and i just had sold my bike and was atm vehicle less,wife had our other car in illinois so he made a deal with me saying i could have the car if i fixed it and gave him 2k...debated,took the deal even tho it was a automatic,had great potential so i jumped on it and fixed the balancer,sway bar and exhaust and had it back to decent condition running wise in few days,then began the hard work...cleaning the interior which used to be flawless...took about a good week of cleaning, currently the car is on jackstands awaiting a long due overhaul. but it is in better hands now and i got it for super cheap with low miles. Getting full exhaust,h/c/i and a shiftkit and new shoes before its let out of the stable again
After selling my '89 GT right out of high school, I told myself the next 5.0 will be a keeper. When I got my finances together I searched out for a clean '94-95 GT or Cobra. I found my GT about 300 miles away in South Bend, IN and made a weekend out of going to get it. It also happened to be my 4 yr anniversary, so I was glad to have the support from the ms to make it about me this time. She was a cherry with 63,000 miles on her, but after DD duties for two years Im now up to 94K. I did finally buy a truck for a DD, so she will once again be babied put back into the shape she deserves.
I had graduated high school and decided to get my self a Mustang, since I had alsways wanted one. I looked for about a year trying to find one that I liked and finally came up with two, a 94 GT and a 89LX. I was leaning toward the 89 since it was a 5 speed, but the owner claimed it had a rebuilt 306 but couldn't tell me any real information on it. So, thinking he was BS-ing me, it got the 94 GT. Plus for $2500, and with 130Kon it, seemed like a good deal. Soon after I got a set of Cobra R's from a traded in 98 GT at our dealership. Then from there I got a Flowmaster cat-back, BBK x-pipe & shorties, K&N filter, and all needed tune-up items. Then one night while coming home from the GF's, the car overheated; as per a leaking water pump. After that the car never ran right again. Later I found a crack in the passenger side head between 2 & 3 cylinder. So I put on a set of worked E7's, then the car started burning lots of oil. So I talked to one of the tech's at work and ended up selling the car to his daughters boy friend. I was sad to see her go, but in hind sight I needed the money and it was for the best. If all goes well I'll have another one day...
My first car was a '74 Mustang II after I sold it I allways wanted another Mustang. I ended up going into the Air Force and getting married. She was very tight with the money so it was cheapo 4 banger econo-cars for 7 yrs. After our divorce in 1997, I was driving through town and saw it, sitting at used car lot. I turned around, checked it out and bought it...my divorce present. It was a completely stock car at the time. It was also my first V8 at 31yrs old. I was pumped! I still own the car and have put in about $20k into it so far. All work was done by myself except for machining the block for the 331 stroker kit. The car is a garage kept baby and you can eat off it, I keep it that clean. I've thought about sellling sometimes because I rarely drive it. But the days I do drive it and that one comment or thumbs up from someone makes me want to keep it forever.
I know there's more good ones...come on peeps! I know not all all these cars were bought and built overnight.
Wow, this one could go on forever.... good job though, it's been an interesting read so far! I'll try to keep this as short as possible without leaving out major details June-ish, 1995, my best friends older brother bought a 94 V6 in Atlantic Blue (unless it was called something different back then). He took me for a drive, and I started saving money, at the age of 15. At 17 I bought my first mustang, a 95 V6 in Lazer Red, auto, slower than molasses, but having a car without hubcaps made you a baller in my town so life was good anyway. Lots of memories in that car, but got rid of it before my next venture in life, promising myself that I'd have another, but it would have a few more cubic inches the next time 19, moved west, changed military trades. Drove by a Hyundai dealership on Vancouver Island, BC, and saw a 95 GT sitting there in all it's stock form. Pulled in, started it up, sweet nothings of factory h-pipe whispering in my ear to take it home with me. I bought it within 12 hours. Hell, I didn't even know how to drive stick when I had my brother pull it off the lot Fast forward to 2009. A lot of life changes since the days when I was on Stangnet religiously, have left the car a little lower on the priority list, although never enough to even fathom giving up on it. This car has been on trips with me all over North America, and when I needed it the most, it stepped up to the challenge and did what I needed it to do, no matter what that was. If there was ever a man who could absolutely promise you that his car will never leave his possession, that would be me. I will take that car to my grave. Looks alot different now than it did, I'm sure most of you saw before and after pics, but every time I sit in it, I still get as excited as the day I pulled into that Hyundai dealership and turned it over for the first time
Hi I have owned a variety of cars... and enjoyed a bunch. Had a 70 olds that had a 455ci that was fun. A 280Z... yes a ricer car. I've had bikes since I was 15 .... any way in 2002 my brother Roy was tuning my bike up and took it for a ride... a car hit a curb swerved and hit him head on... He lived and is ok. decided not to get another bike!! started looking for a convertible.. an easy sell to the wife . Youngest son was working in a mustang shop so I look for Mustang convertible... automatic. (knee trouble) Found my car on the web at a dealer only it was a stick . Looked and looked always coming back to that car!! Finally bought it and glad of it. slowly built it up.. cold air etc. H/C/I , then a stroker and now a vortech... Blew it up at the track this fall..... now it's in pieces soon to be reborn!! 94 vert Steve
My first car was a parents hand me down 88 acura legend. Loved the car as any 16 year old would. drove it through high school and saved up my money. The summer I graduated, I went looking for a Trans Am, my dad being a big Chevy fan was thrilled at the idea. Went looking around a bunch of small dealerships and what not and came across this one that had a bunch of SN-95 mustangs. Ended up really liking the style of them and decided to broaden my search because a mustang I could afford, the trans ams were slightly out of price range. On our way back home from this place, we saw a red mustang on the side of the road, decided to stop and ask about it. Ended up giving the guy $200 and told him we'd be back tomorrow when the title places were open. At this point, I knew nothing about mustangs. Didn't even realize that the 1994 was the first year of the body style or that a 5.0 was the cats meow. I learned very quickly after finding this site The car was this guy's wife's summer car. Completely stock down to the air silencer. Laser red w/ 37k miles on it, grey leather interior, mach 460, all pristine. Drove that car for while and got beat on by a bunch of my friends with chevys. Decided I needed a supercharger. While looking around for a used kit, I came across my current 94. Decided the price was doable if I sold my current one. With a very generous loan from my dad (i still think he wanted the car for himself rather than me) we drove up to NYC to check it out. Came back the next night and drove it home loading up the whole way through friday night Manhattan traffic. Had both cars for close to a year. Finally found a buyer for the red one and off she went.... This became too much to drive as a DD so I bought an exploder and parked this car so I could really make it what I wanted. My wife refuses to even think about selling the car.
I got my 94 Cobra back in May of 06. I had been w/ out a Mustang for about a year and a half. I decided that I wanted a Cobra this time around after never having one before. I wanted a Rio Red Cobra w/ Black leather interior. I found two online, one in Washington State w/ a KB strapped onto it and one down in FL w/ a factor R 351 Windsor. The decision was pretty simple after I found out more about the car. When I first called Jimmy in FL he said there was a current buyer but was not sure if he was going to go through and said to call back in a few days being on Monday. I did and the deal w/ the other guy fell through. About two weeks later I flew down to FL and drove it back up to Maine. It already had H/C/I done on the car so the first thing I did was put in 3.73's and a 31 spline limited slip differential and 31 spline axles. With the rear end done I felt as though the car was still to much of jimmy's and did not have much of what I had done to it. I decided to put on a TFSR intake and a custom cam, I took out the 90MM Lighting meter and put on a PMAS 95MM. I keep spending money on the car b/c I have the goal of an 11 second NA Cobra. Its not a super hard goal to get but IMO I think is pretty respectable out of a NA 351. Next year I plan on doing some 4.10's weight reduction and some better suspension to see how much further into the 12's I can get.
