Tie Rods?

How hard is it to replace tie rods on a 85 mustang? I'm looking at buying this car and they said the only thing it needs are tires and tie rods.

unscrew the tie rods , count how many turns it takes to come off. then install new ones back to same place.... not to hard.

I have never replaced one myslef, but they aren't very expensive. I had one go bad last year on my GT. I ended up just having a shop do it because it was 30 degress outside and I have no garage. Anyway I had them replace both inner and both outer tie rod ends and of course do an alignment and the whole job cost $200 this included the price of the tie rods.

cost me around 30 dollars and took about 45 minuts to fix.

if you are lookin at buying a car, i would recommend taking a buddy with you who is very conversant with cars and stangs in particular.

If the inner tie rods are bad, replace the rack assembly. It's cheaper than replaceing both inner tie rod ends.
