just purchased yesterday a very nice completely stock 83 glx hatchback with 87,000 original miles has a 3.8L auto that runs and drives great. the body and interior are amazing on this thing, i have been looking it over for several days before i bought it and i have found extreamly minimal rust on the body and only a few extreamly small imperfections with the interior (its a little dirty carpet by the pedals, a little dirty at one spot about an inch long and a quarter inch thick on the passenger seat by the center console, and a 1/16 of an inch cut barely noticeable on the passenger door pannel, so i hope that can tell u how clean this thing is for an 83)
i also have an 84 with a 302 and 5-speed that is basically a complete rat rod but the drive train is strong!
so do i turn the new one into the car i want and get rid of the 84 as a rolling chassis (the reason i told the gf) or keep it stock (i will have to still have to sell the 84 as a rolling chassis, ill die before i give away a motor and trans that i can put in another fox down the road)
