my advice: if you've got the extra cash, get something better. upgrading laptops can be challenging (not a plethora of parts unlike w/ desktops) and way more expensive.

I would like something new with a centrion processor or something, but I want to buy something cheap to use for tweecer r/t only.

Will 300mhz be fast enough? Is there a certain recomened amount or ram needed? How much HD space does all of it take up?

I just want to get the cheapest laptop that will work.

This might help when going the cheap route is the focus.

If you find something with Win 98

Be sure it is Win 98se

The first version of Win 98 did not support USB.

btw, I use Win 98se and it works ok for me.

You really don't have to have a power house to tweec with.
