Wow... hard to believe I first started looking for wheels and tires for my mustang almost 4 years ago!

I am aware that 4.75 backspacing is the recommended best for a 17x8 wheel on a 65. The wheels that I am buying only come in 4.5 or 5 inch backspace.
For the front I will run 17x7 with 4.25 backspace just to avoid rubbing issues.

Would it be better to buy the 5 inch backspace and use a quarter inch spacer or would the 4.5 work? Currently on the rear I am running 245 60 14 which is slightly wider and taller than the 235 45 17 I will be replacing it with.

The only reason I ask is because the current wheel has a 4.125 backspace.

a 5" BS will bring the wheel in the wheel house. It depends on the tire your going to use. I thinkg i would have been better off with a 5" since i have more room on the inside then i do on the outside and i couldve adjusted with a 1/8 or 1/4" spacer.
