Why I shouldnt get a LS/Lt 1

by all means, buy a LS1.

215pee-wee horsepower + $3k in mods to still lose... or win off the bat.

Your choice.

LS1's with a LID and very cheap bolt ons net 12's without a flinch.

Personally, I dont like them.

My personal opion, i owned a camaro and my mustang (now). To find a good LS1 it's going to cost you about 10k. Don't argue back and say you found one on ebay for $7999 5000 miles away from your house. By good I mean descent mleage and the works. Not some beaten down hunk of junk. Now... as for the '94 - '95 I can find a good condition one for half the price of an LS1. It falls really short on the power comparison but with some extensive research and a little bit of money they can run in no time. WIth mustangs $1000 can get you pretty far if you spend it in the right places. I'm not talking about buying a pro 5.0 shifter and an american thunder cat back and expecting to take out your city's fastest LS1. My friend has a '93 and he's running mid 12s and he hasn't even touched the engine yet. Also, it's a proven fact that mustangs are so much easier to work on than an Lt1 or Ls1. Not only that parts are so abundant and there are so many options it's unbeleivable. There are so many different superchargers, intakes, heads, all sorts of **** for our cars. And they won't break your wallet either.

I'll have to concede that Cameros and Firebirds are plenty fast. But man, every one I have driven or rode in squeeks and rattles like a guy in new shoes carrying a box of baby rattles in from the rain. They crash over every bump.

In comparison, my 94 GT vert sounds and feels like something out of Germany.

i have driven 2 different LT1 camaros, an LS1 camaro and an LS1 WS6. i liked the LT1's more, and i couldnt tell you why. all the ones i drove were 6 speeds...the 95 Z28 i drove was an absolute blast for me, and it also seemed pretty tight...everything is cool with me for those cars except rear/side visibility...id still take a 94+ GT or cobra...my 97 cobra was worlds better than any camaro ive ever driven

the thought of that is what got me goin in the first place

i was thinking about getting a LS1 a few years ago when my mustang was having problems and i couldnt figure it out. and it was mainly bc of the larger engine and the ram air hood. then i decided i didnt want to do that bc i test drove one and couldnt see ****. PLUS I have a MUSTANG! you are owning a small piece of history and you are part of something huge. Besides if i start to mod my car again and want a larger engine i can get a 351.

Amen to that htown gt whats up bro anyway alot of people forget the displacement diffrence between the the two and the fact that you have a corvette engine stuck inside of a camro/firebird and now gto aka sporty sunfire. I have no love for camros only the 69-70 models.

Only about 20% of 01-02 T/A and SS have LS6 blocks due to a shortage. Even if you did find one with an LS6, it is NOT the same setup as a vette.

They are fast. It's just too bad that is sounds like the motor is sitting in your lap, and the dash jumps everytime you hit a bump, oh, and make sure you have enough cash laying around to replace the clutch and/or rearend every other year or so. Good luck.
Brandon

In the owner's book, I think it says to replace the diff. fluid at about the first 7500 miles and then regular maintenace after that. This will prevent the 10-bolt from "being replaced every year" If you run slicks and lanuch the bitch hard will you tear them up. Yes they are a weak link in the car, but how come I've seen plenty of LS1s with 120k miles and still have the orignal clutch and rearend? It's all on the driver.
I know someone who has 25k miles on his car and gone through 6 trannies and 4 10-bolts, and that was before he added a blower. Now this guy tore his car up, but yet is stupid enough to keep pumping out money and not upgrade to a 12-bolt. Tranny wise, he must have powershifted all the damn time or something. Those M6's are good trannies.

one other thing, my 94 z[second one] does not have as nice a front seat as the my 94 Cobra...and my wife hates the way thwe z takes bumps...and know that I am thinking about it, the Cobra brakes are way better than the zs',the cobra stopps alot better...now according to specs ,which car was supposed to be faster,94 z 0r 94 Cobra?

I'll put in my .2 cents. And remember this is just an opinion. I wanted a LS1 Z a while back..

I'm a GM Certified Tech. Mr. Goodwrench. :D

Stock for Stock a Z is faster.

They are immensly hard to work on and expensive to work on/modify.
To me, the build quality is unbelievably cheap.
They suffer from a list of electrical problems (many people fight me on this until they look up the TSB's or work on them themselves... the 2000 models seem to be the worst for this).
If you build serious power your going to be looking into a rearend.
They leak oil. I've repaired a few SS cars with major oil leaks around 30-50000 miles. But that's a GM thing. They all leak oil from somewhere. My 100K 5.0 has no leaks. And almost all of the 100K 4.6's leak no oil.
They ALL have a pinion seal leak from the rearend eventually. This can be cured, possibly, by an aluminum driveshaft. But if not, you can fix it and fix it.. it will leak again.

I wanted one until I drove them around and worked on them all the time. I'll stay with my stang. I love Camaro's and GTO's and especially Vette's. But if you dont' have a ton of cash... you may want to stick with Mustang.

Just an opinion.

my friend has an lt1 95 formula, this is his second as he wrecked the first. Both cars were slightly over 100k miles. He loves those cars, but he keeps building up more debt trying to maintain them. Oh and the oil leaks someone mentioned are increadibly bad. Right now my friend has no money to fix the leak, he looses about 4 qts of oil every 3-4 days. Everytime something brakes on his car I always, just for comparison, check how much it would cost for me to fix the same problem on my 95 gt, and all I can say is the cost is like comparing a Vette to an Escort. The cost of parts in particular. I personaly think if you want a fast chevy you might as well buy a vette, cuz the maintennence cost will be close between a vette and a T/A!!!

overall though..... deffinately skip the lt1, the ls1 seems to be more dependeble, and more power + better looks.

1. Yeah I've heard of that, but yet you can also do a cam change with instruction from online, and not have to pull the engine.
2. Preference
3. I've heard the lights on the T/As not being able to come up because the motor tears up the gear that lifts the light. A metal gear fixes this.
4. Serious power you will always need something like a 9". But the 10-bolt is weak for these cars.
5. Have not heard of that.
6. Again, have not heard that.

This is just from what I have gathered in the last few months.
