It's always the voice of reason that over rules the desire to spend stupid money.

An Eagle forged 408 recip assy that will fit into any garden variety stock block comes complete w/ everything pictured for 1929.00

ESP-15000030_xl.jpg

Or, when talking naturally aspirated,...The cast crank/ forged piston/I beam rod version is 1259.00. (My favorite)

A N/A 408 will be stupid reliable, make every bit of 500/500 w/ the right heads and cam, be capable of on the edge of block integrity 750 HP.

Either way they're a balanced assy, so the balance comes off of the machine bill. The rods are included so the rebuild of the rods come off of the bill as well. New crank,..no need to turn the old one. The only machine bill remaining is the cleaning, the bore and hone, and decking.
With the bottom option, you'd have the whole short block sitting there done for 2k.
Late to the party here, but these "balanced kits" are pretty notorious for being way out of wack when purchased and often end up at the machine shop to get rebalanced the right way.

Regardless, one still comes out ahead this way, even if it's a few hundred more than advertised and you are making a milder N/A mill.

And Eagle are notorious for extra costs/initial quality. I know Woody at Fordstrokers.com doesn't like that company. Just another fwiw.

Why didn't I think of asking you guys more? I guess because it's speculation at this stage, solid speculation, speculation non the less. Doby will see a 351 though.

I'll start squealing once I get the salvage engine home. I believe I already have a truck roller on the line. I've hung around the salvage enough to get to know the guys in surrounding businesses decently. These people are who I am btw. I enjoy there company and they seemingly enjoy mine. I guess i'm officially a blue collar redneck. I'm about to turn 55 this year and I finally realize who I am.

Mike @madmike1157 , I'm worse than a cereal (serial) killer! I love God, guns and mustangs (maybe an adult beverage every once in awhile too). Come to the dark side Mike, you'll feel welcome here. You'll have to vote for Trump of course, small detail.....

I broke out my mini blaster this morning to see how deep the rust was along the bottom of the door. Not bad at all! Yay!

By the way, with an air hammer and a chisel tip those hinge pins leapt right out of the way.

No thanks,....
We're miles apart Dave.
I don't believe in the great creator.
I do believe you have the right to own a gun but, I think they should do intense back ground tests, and any "assault" weapons should be banned. (If you can have a clip that holds 30 or more bullets that can be rapid loaded when spent,....or if it can be converted to any iteration beyond single fire semi-auto...banned)
And right now, I'm perfectly content to wait for his impeachment.

Ok, my thoughts are that some rather large water buffalo desguised as a women was the previous owner of Roby.

Of course we have the massive cracks in the floor pan under the front seat's rear bolts. Probably not caused by the impressive 115 crank horsepower. Now we also have a wallowed out hole at the bottom of the door where the guide rod attaches to.

I just ground it down and welded in a washer to give it a little stability. I figured the WBPO ( Water Buffalo Previous Owner) must have been putting their delicate ham sized fist on the top of the glass to uncork their great big ginormous fat butt from the driver's seat. Thereby causing mere steel to give way under the enormous pressures of said tonnage.

I'll smooth that out with a little bondo so it doesn't look too bad.

I didn't seam seal yesterday, instead I flipped the door over and started to strip it.
IMG_3075.JPG

After I got it to metal I sprayed a rust converter/metal prep over the entire surface. It had tiny little specs of rust all over the surface. That'll take care of them. Once I wipe it down again I'll give it three coats of primer and do the initial block to see what really needs to be fixed. The door is remarkably straight.
