Another positive review - USA Today

I read this in the paper this morning. Well, this article put things into perspective for me...

Once again, another 'gray-haired' reviewer 'loves' the new Mustang. He got pulled over by a COP who wanted to check out the 05 and compare to his 'old' Mustang.. the pattern continues...

Now I finally saw a lime GT on the road on Tuesday, and I have to honestly say... VERY IMPRESSED. The car just looks professional. Very nice paint and fine fit and finish.

So I got to thinking.. why don't I like the look of this car? After all I thought it was very impressive on the road?!?!

And it dawned on me.. this new Mustang is targeted towards a new audience. No longer will the car appeal to the 18-30 crowd (myself). It's now targeting the CORVETTE audience. The same age group that buys Vette's (35-55) will be looking at Mustangs. It makes sense.

So I feel better. I've tried hard to like the car, but the bottom line is that even though it looks good its not something I would want to drive around. BUT, it is now something that will attract an age group that previously would not have wanted a Mustang.

Its probably good that its targeted at a higher age group, maybe that will lower my insurance rates. btw, I'm 33

Uh no. I'm 22 and love the 05 enough to buy one pretty soon. I've also got two friends who HATE my 95 Mustang but both say the 05 is the first Mustang they've liked since the 1969 style. And guess what? They are both under 24.

Guess what? You just made my case ;) Your two friends have not liked a Mustang since the 60's... I guess that means they are not people that would buy one from the 90's. -Which is exactly the group I'm talking about.

As this shows, the Mustang is targeting a new audience. Those of us looking for a sleek, aerodynamic car will look elsewhere.. even if we think Ford did a nice job on the vehicle.

I think Ford is going to have a winner with all age groups. I'm 41 and I haven't been that crazy about Mustangs since the late 60's models. I've owned 1 Fox body and 2 SN95's and think the new design is a winner in most areas over the previous versions.

this thread is very revealing. look at the pattern. every person that differs in opinion has said something along the lines of 'i haven't liked the mustang since pre-1970'..

....targeting a different audience. (i.e. not those of us who would buy an '04 and not a '64

Well this the first style of the mustang that I've liked since the 60's style. The GT also has the power I liked in the 80's-90's model.
So the 05 GT gives me something in between. Oh and I love, I mean love the interior.

Glad you like it!!

It's not my bag, the old gauges and so forth, but Ford seems to be getting good feedback.

Well, I'm 45 and I love the 05 Stang. My Red GT premium was ordered on the first day. My last V-8 powered car was an Infiniti Q45. I'n addition to my new Stang, I'll be keeping my Audi all wheel drive vehicle for the snow and rain.

In case you have trouble using the search function. This has been discussed before. And the median age for mustang gt buyers has and still is in the 40's. Just some of the younger people can't handle it.

So what new car is your desired choice?

Im almost 35 and i have a soft spot for all yrs of the mustang. The only one i didnt like was the 74-78 notchbacks.I could stomach one of those i guess but it would need some serious horsepower and it would have to be a prostreeter. The 05 to me is simply beautiful but i do wish the sides of the car were flat and not rounded but other than that......2 thumbs up.
