Fox Bodies :)

If I were looking to buy another fox it would be a 89, mass air+tilt steering+140 speedo = win.
There are other differences but those are the big ones that would pull me in that direction.

I was just at my builder and he was trying to find me a core for a regrind cause my cam was too nice (his words) he pulled 3 different cams off the shelf that all came out of foxes. 2 gt cams and one lx cam. The grinder confirmed there were 3 different profiles and in order for me to get the specs i wanted it had to be a gt cam.

LX should not matter. The cam E8ZE was the late 88 change but has the chart shows the #s are the same, the F1ZE is the revised part # with the bolt hole drilled. The F4ZE is a '95 5.0. cam part # change due to material change only. The F1AE & F4TE would be truck.

I'm going by what they said, I think Ed Curtis said something similar. But the grinder confirmed there was in fact a difference in cams between some year lx's and gt's. When i drop my cam off to be reground i'll ask him. Not like it really makes a difference since they all run like ****.

god they look so damn sexy! (hatches :p )

i'm thinking about getting my hands on one, i read somewhere there is a difference in 87-93? something like mass air or fuel injected. i cant remember.
should i open my mind to a pre 90 gt? or stick to 90-93?
and i know you're probably getting annoyed considering this the 3rd thread i made. but i want to make sure i make the right choice.

Let me give you the ultimate wisdom on this subject:

Buy one.

In the end, it really matters very little what one you go with, because they are all like tinker toys, all the parts are interchangeable, and it's not like you're going to leave it stock anyway.

Yes, the 93s had hypereutectic pistons. Whatever. I guess avoid getting a 93 if forged pistons will make you feel better. And really, anything pre-'86 starts to really be a pain in the ass, because the cars start to get a lot different from the "newer" ones. Even the '86 itself has got a lot of differences. But hell, let's say you find a cherry '82. I'd say jump on it. Like I said, it really doesn't matter in the end. You can modify it regardless.

There are many differences in the years of foxes. 79-86 are the ugly ones for starters. :D

Ninja nut kick!

*Guy seems unfazed, because his balls stopped working years ago from similar ninja nut kicks.*

*Nik puts his beer down.*

I would save up a little more cash. Get a 4k car and have 1 or 2k set aside for mods and repaires :D

I agree.

In the end you should buy a car you like. Just FYI, to replace the heater core you do have to discharge the A/C and then recharge it. PITA! It just really depends on what your plans are for the car. Mine is a secondary car, not my daily driver.

I agree completely with this!^^

LOOK at the cars. What LOOKS good to you? Do you like the style of the GT ground effects, or the clean look of an LX? Do you like 5 speeds or is an auto more suited to you?

Pick what you like, because as Nik said, you probably will wind up modifying it to make it better, as there are tons and tons of upgrade parts for these cars!

Happy hunting!

79-93 were all the same platform, there were just little differences every year. These differences were generally improvements. These cars are all 19-33 years old now, so finding a strong platform is the #1 goal. It all depends on what you plan to do to it. If you are just going to drive it and maybe do some little basic things that most do, a later model is better.

I have an 88. I didn't want an airbag. Mass Air isn't all that what some crack it up to be. Also, I'm getting closer to that 25 year mark so I won't have to pass emmissions any more.

Oh, one more thing.... if you like the hatch then feel free to love it. I have known SO many people who loved Hatches, then they start getting into these internet communities and get brainwashed by the notch/coupe crowd that coupe's are so special, then suddenly it's "coupe's man, coupes".

Get the car YOU want, tell everyone else to F off when they tell you what you should want.

Love my hatch. I don't think I can fit a bike into the back of a coup.
