1990 Timing

Working on fresh 1990 striker 347
Setting timing
When I pull spout the timing light won't flash
When I put spout in the light flashes
Any help would be greatful

timing light hooked correctly? either you're getting spark from the number 1 cylinder or you're not, the spout doesnt change that

Yes as soon as I plug spout in the light flashes when I in plug light quits flashing this is strange I did not install engine just trying to get it to run right
