I recently started hearing a weird grinding/howling noise coming from the rear end of my 98 cobra, it really doesent matter what speed as long as its over 20mph it still makes the noise, especially louder at highway speeds, If I am cruising on the highway it will make the noise and if i let off the trottle to coast down hill the noise will go away for a few seconds and start back again on deceleration. Any Ideas on what this could be? Pinion bearing?

My thoughts on rear end service. Most anytime ANY repair work is needed it's best to just rebuild the whole rear end. Reason? The cost of the rebuild kit is so low compared to the labor involved that taking a chance on a re-work is not worth the small savings in parts.

This goes double when dealing with an IRS application. Add to this the need to inspect the outer wheel hub bearings.

So unless you are well experienced in rebuilding rear ends and can tell the difference between a worn bearing and a re-usable one, rebuild the whole thing.
