autometer water temp gauge not working right?

anybody know whats wrong with my temp guage?

what it does is: when the car is cold, it will take about a minute for it to shoot up and peg out (it will go passed 250*). when its warm, it stays pegged out. i checked all the wires and everything seems fine. so im thinking it might be the actual temp sensor or the guage itself...what do you guys think.....ohh yeah, the sensor just started acting up all of a sudden

I also have the same problem, and i also think it is the sensor. Will find out after i install a new Temp sender.

My gauge worked fine with the autometer sensor, when I went to the stock ford unit, I had the same problem. Trying to find a part # for the autometer sensor. I think its #2258

im using the autometer sensor, so it should be working fine....im gonna recheck the wires again tommorow morning

Huh, so maybe thats not my problem. Are you running both the stock gauge and the autometer gauge off of one sendor?

no, the autometer guage is hooked to the autometer sending unit..the stocker isnt hooked up at all

I tried running the stock gauge and autometer off the same sender, just to see what would happen, and I saw what you described in your first post. Took off the stock gauge and everything worked fine.

I then switched to a stock ford sending unit and got the symptoms you described above, so I was thinking I just needed the autometer sending unit. But maybe thats not the case.

What ground and power wire did you splice into?

i spliced into the clock pod power and ground

you need to run the autometer guage with an autometer sending unit
