Progress Thread Darkfader's 93 Gt Progress - Back to work

Just a little update, lots of things happening here. For the stang, the rear has been pressure washed and I’m super happy to report no rust so far. I test fitted the new led bulbs and LX tails and they are very bright and vibrant. I love how bulbs colored the same as their lenses look. Insulation and plywood for the garage walls is onsite, I just need to find time to get it done and then the two post lift can go in.

I may catch some hate for this, but last week I purchased a little something to keep the 5.0 company.

This next comment is only because I spent the last year working on a '62 impala SS with a 409.

Truthfully though, those are beautiful cars. Not so cheap either....

So close to being able to really get some work done to the five-oh. Finally found a set of calipers that weren’t grossly overpriced and snatched them up. I traveled over to Delaware a couple days ago and scooped up a lift for the garage. I spent most of the day today getting it set up. Not super easy for one guy, but it’s all done other than the electrical circuit. I’ll handle that tomorrow and run it through the test and adjustment phase, as well as a major garage cleanup. Next on the list are some accessories to make working on the cars a little nicer. Still need an oven for powder coating as well. I have a few more days off and will be doing as much as possible. I plan to order all the suspension parts this week so when it comes down off the lift, its brakes and suspension are all brand new. Now for drinks…and pics. Don’t mind the mess, most of that crap goes in the shed, which I’ve been sprucing up.

Just placed a massive order with Maximum Motorsports. An order totaling about 300$ less than I originally paid for the car. Lol. Everyone here already knows, but when you call MM, they are extremely helpful and knowledgeable so I’m feeling good about the setup. A couple items won’t be in for about two weeks, but that’s ok because I have some work to do before I can install suspension anyway. The first order of business will be to drop the rear end and re-gear it. Along the way, the old braking system is coming out for the the new 5 lug/cobra setup.

I still need wheels and tires and I’m thinking of going 17x9 to avoid any potential headaches that may be associated with 18’s, although I had my heart set on those Saleens. I think these will look nice against the white:

As badly as I want horsepower, I’m using restraint and making my suspension and brakes top notch first. Without disclosing the entire shopping list, the guy at MM said, “your car will handle very nice with this setup”. I’m cool with that.

So my lift has 6 anchors in the base of each column. The installation instructions stated that they were to be torqued to 100ft.lbs. 3500psi concrete is the minimum, and I have 4500psi concrete. That was all successful, but with it being a baseplate lift, I just had a sketchy feeling about performing work under it. These additional brackets were available which add 7 more anchors to each column spread out along the 4’ bracket, so I figured for peace of mind and some cheap insurance, I’d go ahead and purchase and install them. I completed that project last evening. Pulled the car in and raised it up for the first time. I’m very satisfied and will keep a close eye on the anchor torques.

I also called MM again yesterday and ordered another suspension package. I may have an addiction and someone should hide my wallet from me. The car will basically have the entire MM catalog under it. I also placed an order for wheels and tires and some miscellaneous odds and ends I need to complete the brake swap. I can’t wait to tear into this thing. Pics:

My porch had lots of boxes on it when I got home last night. Wheels, tires, rear diff cover, axle seals and bearings, door hinge pin kit, and rear wheel studs. Not exactly sure when the MM order will arrive, but I won’t be doing much to the car until then. Definitely feeling gitty.
