Engine Swap

Have a 1998 4.6l Vin x code.
Wondering if i can replace engine with an 01 or later Vin x long block?
Plan to use place block and heads only and use all other existing parts.
Think it would work so long as cam and crank timing didn't change through the years. Particularly wanting the PI and extra HP.
Has anyone done this?
If so, any pitfalls?

Yes you can. In addition you could use a long block from a 2001+ Crown Vic, Town Car, or Grand Marquis.

Better yet. Choose a long block from a 2003+ to get the better heads with more threads in the spark plug holes.

Search Car-part.com for some sample prices and salvage yards in your area.

This topic has been covered a TON of times. Basically put both motors on an engine stand and make the donor motor look like the original. The key to making this project work is to make the new motor look the same ELECTRICALLY as the original.
