Gear change problem! Help

Hi I was installing some 373 gears in my friends 98 v6 mustang with a 7.5 rear end, it has 273 in it now. when I installed the 373 I set the pinon depth used the factory carrier shim. when I torque the carrier bolts the pinon hits the carrier housing. Checked with ford if there is a different carrier for the 373 gears vs. the 273 carrier. They said the part numbers are the same. The pin for the axle will not even slide past the gears. Any know if there is a different carrier? Thanks Keith

This is unrelated but are you installing a T-Lok or other LSD as well?
