Noticeable Difference between 3.55s and 3.73s?

If you're going to switch, 410's are what you want. No offense but this isn't rocket science. The difference on the hwy between a 390 and a 410 is maybe 100 rpm's. Your heavy very needs the gear. Like I said, i'll be doing 430's in my pump gas street car and yes it see's the highway ;)

as i posted, im more concerned with the 1-2 shift rather than hwy speeds

No stock 94-95 Mustang came with a 2.95 1st. They are all 3.35 1st gears. The 2.95 was only available as an aftermarket transmission. Longer input shaft, yes, 2.95 1st, no.

A 3.35 1st will accelerate quicker than a 3.27 or 2.95 will with the same rear gear.

If you are going with a taller 1st gear, then you will want to shorten your rear gear to make up for the difference. Otherwise, your car will feel sluggish from a stop.

Case and point: My car has a 3.55 rear gear in it. It was fine with the 3.35 1st (3.35*3.55=11.89) Now I have a 2.94 1st gear in it and it's a dog off the line (2.94*3.55=10.43) this 1st gear/rear gear combo is equivalent to a 3.08 rear gear on the stock tranny (3.35*3.08=10.3). I am now going to a 4.10 rear gear to get that 1st gear multiplier back (2.94*4.10=12.05).

It's all clear now isn't it? :SNSign:

Grn92lx - There is a difference between a street car and daily driver that sees more than 55mph on occassion, besides at the track.

I wouldn't go any higher than 373's with a daily driven (on highway too) car. I have 3:73's...

:nice:

trust me 4.10's will get you out the hole quicker but, you also have to take into consideration your tire's and suspension. You do have to keep your tires planted on the ground. Didn't read in your sig your setup but i run 4:10's on my lx it's my DD i'm also running a TTC R-600 tranny. the gears are not as bad as people think. Then again it's me. I dont fear the gear after all it is a weekend car so just go ahead and get 4:10's and have fun with them.

I opted for FRPP 4.10s with my DD 5.0, but I also changed to a T5Z tranny with a 2.95 1st gear and 0.63 5th :nice:

happy with your 410 choice?

im just a little worried about my 1st. i know there wont be much of one, maybe not as bad as what im thinking...

FWIW, I've run both 4.30's and 3.55's in my vert.. the 4.30's were quicker out of the hole, but didnt change 1/4 ET's at all.. just added one more shift. 3.55's trapped at 6k rpm in 3rd, 4.30's were at 6k in 4th..
I drive my car everywhere, so 4.30's sucked.. 2-3 hr road trips arent to fun when you're buzzing along at 3k rpm
