Are there any transmissions that are a direct replacement for my 01 gt. I got bad news from Ford today. They said I need my tranny(TR3650) overhauled which is going to cost me $2600. They said I have some broken teeth, sychros broken and bearing all worn down which just magicaly showed up after I had them install my clutch and flywheel. So I was thinking I can get a new one for that same price and just have them install it then. What do you guys think?.

Trust me, I argued with them about it. They say they were not near that part of the tranny, all they did was take out the clutch and put mine in and kept saying that there is no warranty on aftermarket parts.. I am going to talk to them tommorow bout it again. But if I have to pay that much for it :bs: then I figured I would get something better. I want to have one picked out if it comes to that. Any ideas on which one, if any would work.. I would need one that doesn't require any modifying. Thanks.

Well, the www.fordracingparts.com website has some real nice trannys which are around $2600 at the most and that is MSRP which is usually higher than what you can actually find a dealer price for if you shop around.

For $2600 no way does it seem right to invest that money in that same stinking 3650....

most likely what happend is somthing droped down the open shifter tunnel while the trans is out.

I have seen this happen to other techs a few times, and they never want to listen to the easy way to prevent this.

I use a shop rag and a rubber band , put the shop rag over the shifter opening and then put the rubber band around it so nothing can go down there.

I am sorry to hear that this happend to you, and you probally have no way of proving this since they already took the trans apart, You may want to try and file a small claim lawsuit against them and see what happens. Go in and tell the service manager that you know how this happend and your taking all the parts and having a tremec specialist look at it.

Hell they could p05 the repair for you ( this would cover most if not all of the repair under warrenty) if your car is less than 7 years old. If you can get this manager to come on here I will argue with him about it for you.

Do you know the differnce between the TKO500 and the 600?. Do they bolt right up or to you need to modify?
they well bolt right up with no modification. the difference between the 500 and 600 is strength, gearing ratio, and input spline. the 600 is stronger with a lower first gear and it has a 26 spline input. the 500 is just like the tranny you got now, same gearing ratio and a 10spline input. since you already got a new clutch the 500 would be the way to go since the 600 would need a different clutch. oh and the gearing is 500-3.27 and the 600-2.87. but i do warn you that this is a loud tranny but you should never have to worry about it breaking again
