Tire Help!

I put this on the V6 forums but it seems nobody looks at it so Im turning to you guys. I have a 2002 Gt and i had 17x9 chrome cobra r rims on it with a 245/45zr17 tires. I sold them to a friend who has a 1999 V6. He says he is hearing a knocking noise and the shop said it was bc on low tread on the tires I have never heard of this. Do you have any ideas or reasons?

if its hitting the wear bars sure it would be, my car started shaking when one of the front tires hit the wear bar
