Tune, or try my SVO Extender?

I have a 93 GT, running stock ECU.
I installed my 331 motor, Holley Systemax (intake n heads), Trick Flow 2000 cam (smallest), Ford ceramic shorties, for a street set-up. Its got a steel crank, but I went with dish pistons (9.0) to allow future single turbo.

Immediately it started running very hot, I assume lean, and yes, detonating. So I acquired an original, in the box SVO Extender (from about 1998).
Can this help my air/fuel problem, or do I need to get a chip made, and then eventually another when I do get the turbo system installed (hopefully summer 2011)?

The car seems to run ok, unless driven hard.
The power is simply amazing.
Any advice on what to do about tuning it would be great. I can't let it run this way much longer. Its already in need of new valve seals.[/SIZE]
Thanks,
