WTF...Won't start

Just finished a GT40 head swap. Before reinstalling the alternator and ps pump, we started it to get the timing set with a light and it ran perfect. After installing both, it won't fire now. The coil wire and #1 wire both have power. It tries, and will backfire out the carb. The dizzy didn't get pulled after it was set, and the wires were not touched. Doesn't make sense, and itching to drive it again!

Well, without sounding stupid and I'm sure you checked everything but..... assuming the engine is mechanicaly sound three things are needed. Fire at the right time, fuel and air. Keep checking, you'll have an aha moment. Plugs too wet with gas to fire maybe? Clean them, change them? What did you set the timing at? I don't know....I'm guessing here. Mike

Fresh plugs gapped correctly, getting spark, getting fuel. Just won't start since adding the alt. I gave up on it this afternoon out of frustration, going to pull the alt back out in the morning and see if it starts back up.
