I have a local guy calling me on to a race at the strip this spring. I am just wondering what i will need(if anything) to beat this guy. I think that the z28;s are just the basic 275hp 5.7s. So far i have magnapack catback ,aem cai ,pro kit springs ,frpp 3.73's and a b&m ripper shifter. Should this be enough or will i need more?

thanks alot

hook up a 75 shot dry just for giggles, can be done for about 200(thats how much i did mine for but its used) and will beat him up pretty good :D

also might lookinto an offroad midpipe...

if its the lt1 and its stock i think you could probably take him. Ive taken plenty of teh lt1s at the strip but the ls1 would give you some trouble and walk away if the driver knows at all what he is doing.

its going to be a drivers race but i'd say you have the advantage because of your gears. I got into a little arguement with the fbody boys on ls1tech about this very subject. They were comparing LS1 fbodys to 05GTs and i made the mistake of making a list that said an lt1 vs a 99-04GT would be a drivers race. Most of them wouldnt admit to that. Heres the thread if anyone cares http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=665723&page=1&pp=20 (and yeah yeah i know its a chevy site but its cool talkin to other v8 enthusiasts)

Some of those guys are being automotive homers.

that one guy defending his stance that the stock 05+ gt is a dog stock said in one of his posts that anything that runs mid to high 13's is slow.. WELL THEN I guess even the all mighty LS-1 is slow is stock form..

and that other guy laughing at 260 flywheel HP when his heavier F-body made 275 stock

yeah exactly. They cant admit that sometimes 281cubic inches can measure up to there 5.7s.

There's a lawsuit waiting to happen. What kind of track lets you race with a passenger......and one holding a cam-corder none the less?!? :nonono:

I had a '70 Ford Galaxie with a 390. It was a land yacht. We fit eight people in it, and still turned a 17.4. I only race at the finer establishments that don't have a crap ton of rules. I have been banned from the same track so many times. I once ran my cousin's car down the strip. I turned a 12.18 in it, and wasn't wearing a helmet. I was hold by tech I couldn't race anymore that night. I got in my car, and ran a few more times anyway. My car was only a mid-13 car so nobody said anything. I went to one track where there were so many rules it took the fun outta going. Not many slack rules tracks left.

Those LT1 cars are deceptively quick. My uncle had a stock '95 Formula with auto trans, and that thing was a low 14 car. His stock '00 T/A with auto ran 13.9's. The main thing you got going is the gears. I don't see why you couldn't beat him. You probably won't be pulling a bunch of car lengths on him, but as long as you don't miss a shift you shouldn't have a problem.
