Finally!!!!

I was shocked at the value they gave my car 2 years ago. It all depends on that.

Do you have any local car forums with guys that paint on the side? That may be your best chance and you'll get some quality work per dollar spent.

Depends on prep work too. Are there a lot of dings/scratches to fill on the panels that will still be there?

Theres lots of dings and hatchet marks....a fair amount of body work needed after the nose is replaced.

OK guys so dont flame me on this one.....but has anyone tried modified fenders like these?

The fenders with the vent that matches the rear side vent look good on the 99-04 and especially the 05 - present IMO. Our smaller side vent just doesnt provide enough of a look to match a vent in the fender.

That said, those look the best out of the modified fenders for our cars. Best of the worst that is. I'd fear them not fitting well also.

But with body kits, its the package that makes everything come together. if you can figure out a way to make it compliment eachother, go for it. 1 part of a body kit doesnt usually look good by itself....

Body parts is one place where it hurts a lot to skimp. Those fenders look awesome, but they might have fitment issues. They might work fine, but I would do a little internet research on them and see if anyone else has used them before, and what they think of them. The guy has a 99.2% positive feedback, but most people post feedback when they get the item, not when it is installed.

Here was just one quote I found in his feedback column.

"Expected it to fit better. Had to be heavily modified. But looks great once done"

If I was going to get fenders, I would probably choke up the extra money to get them from Cervini's or someone with a really good reputation like that.

OK wow good info guys thanks....

So has anyone used MPS Auto salvage??? Looks like they're parting out a Laser Red Cobra.

Would it be worth it to have all the dings fixed in the doors or to buy a new one for just over $100 that comes with everything but the inside door panel?

taken directly from the auction

Most doors of this age do have a few scratches and possibly a light door ding or 2.

You could probably fix all the dings on the car for that $100 for 1 door. And you'll still have crap to fix on the new one...

U P D A T E

So theres a problem.

Insurance didn't total the car. They're paying $3750

The nose is tweaked and the body needs alot of attention.

The shop said they would color match mirrors, straighten the nose...even replace the radiator support.

But they want an additional $3000 out of my pocket.

I was assured it will be showroom condition.

But damn $3000 extra?

The insurance company, if they're not totalling the car, should pay for everything it takes to get your car back in the condition it was in before. If they're just cutting you a check in this case, you're getting screwed. Insurance companies will try to pay as little as possible to get you to go away.

Don't accept a check, insist they deal with your body shop and repair the car to its original condition.

Insurance went to the body shop to see the car. The body shop told me insurance said $3750

Then I'd contact an attorney. These insurance companies like to push people around until a lawyer get's involved. They either have to make the car as it was before or total it and cut you a fat check. Aside from your deductible there should be zero out of pocket cost.

Might be worth checking with the insurance company to make sure the body shop isn't jerking you around. Also wouldn't hurt to have a list of what the body shop says they'll do for the $3750, and what extra they'll do for $3000. If you're getting a lot of extra things done, $3000 may be worth it. But for fixing the front clip and putting in a new radiator support, that should be the insurance company's responsibility.

For the damages that actually happened in the accident i thought $3750 was pretty good. The passenger rear quarter has to be reshaped. They're going to remove the windshield to paint the area around the glass. The mirrors will be color matched. Any parts that can be painted off the car will be. The body is in rough shape.

But nearly $7000 on a convertible is alot of coin. I was tempted to make the difference up with what i got from medical if i had to.

How would i go about getting insurance to total it??? Can they total it for the value of whats been invested into the car?

Chris

Generally if they total it you can request they award you with "fair market value" meaning you get what it would cost you to replace your car. This usually has nothing to do with book value and in some states it's the law! There are too many cars out there with crap for blue book value (1993 Cobra case in point) but would cost you alot more than book to replace.

If you want reimbursed for the extras/mods you have on the car, you'll have to submit receipts and such. Usually if the market value is less than the cost to repair the car, the ins. company will total it. This is why it's very odd that they would make you put any money towards it. This is the whole point of getting insurance, so you won't have to fork out thousands to get the car repaired!

If they do total it, make sure you ask them about buying the salvage back. You can usually get it back for several hundred bucks and make a couple thousand parting it out or use the parts on another stang!
