What do I need to do to get 300 RWHP or better out of my '95 5.0?? I do not want to super or turbo charge it, and if at all possible, can I leave the stock heads on?? This is my first build and your help will be greatly appriciated, Thanks.

P.S. This car is a daily driver.

To reach 300 RWPH you cant keep your stock heads, you can port them but you wont be at 300. You will need to do the Heads, cam, and Intake. Either go w/ a trick flow or Edelbrock intake or port out a cobra to match the heads. Get Either Twisted Wedge Heads or AFR Heads as far as the cam go w/ something like a Steeda #19 or TFS Stage 1 cam. Thats the only way you going to get to 300 RWPH w/ out a power adder.

Well you will need h/c/i like suggested above plus a free flowing exhaust if you don't have one.

Personally I stayed NA as long as possible... I think for the money its worth starting off with a supercharger... I mean by the time you put money into heads, cam, intake and exhaust you should have the same money and power that you would have with just a supercharger...

What about a cobra, Keeping N/A is it possible with stock heads/intake?

Prob not, stock heads on the GT and Cobra are both Restrecive. Would be cheaper to reach 300 RWHP w/ a cobra just b/c its already got a good aftermarket intake on it, but it really cant be done N/A w/ out aluminum Heads and a cam. Like also stated the Exhuast will have to be done and the free mods such as bumping the timming and dont forget about pullies.

The Cheapest way to reach 300 RWHP is a big shot of nitrous but then you only have a 300 RWHP car when your bottle has NO2 in it.

Well I am currently on a quest to attempt to obtain as close to 300HP to the wheels. I will be useing stock heads and intake. I know the stock cam in the cobra is weak. That will have to go. But I think that working the heads over (P&P) and P&P, and Extrude hone the intake. 65mm TB, Redo the computer either custom burn a chip are use tweeker on it. As far as the exhaust, that is opened up pretty much right now on mine. I really don't want to put it on the bottle or boost it. I know that the quickest way to get it to 300+ to the rear is boost it, or bottle feed it. :D :D :D

I think your going to find out that the stock heads just aren't capable of being minipulated enough to put down 300 rwhp. There are few guys with aluminum heads, aftermarket intake, and cam and still haven't been able to climb over the 300 barrior.

I would guess with a better cam and worked over heads you might make 270-280ish.
Of coarse i have been surprised before...

Oh and i think iron heads could make 300 rwhp but you need a good set like roush... A set that was predesigned to be really opened up... and almost the perfect combo as far as intake and cam to go with it.

I think there are people on here with gt40p heads that have made high 280's

DarkPony on corral has made 299 RWHP 329 RWTQ with P heads. That's close enough for me. I think worked over GT-40's and an extrude honed Cobra intake with a GREAT cam, long tubes, 80mm PRO-M and all the other bolt-ons could get close to 300rwhp. Your best bet to get there would be a custom cam.

I'll take a simple 280

afr 165s comp274 cam, edlebrock performer intake, TB, MAF, 24# injector. Long tube headers, x h or prochamber
Mufflers of your choice.
MAC flowpath, spintech, magnaflow bassani, or dynomax race bullet mufflers

a dyno tune

but remember.... losing weight is an equivelant feeling if not better than adding power. and it makes gas mileage better :) do a search on lightening or start a thread asking away.

CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG!

Is ANYONE on this board making 300 at the wheels with a 302 block and NO power adder? I dont recall anyone on here that has dynoed 300 at the wheels ( I see Adrena Lynn above..300 on a Mustang Dyno :bs: )

Killer has just under 300 with CUSTOM cam, AFR's and chip. BUT, if you dont want a power adder, just do H/C/I, matched as close as possible, and practice your driving.

I doubt Killer Canary gives a Rat's A$$ that he is not at 300, because he is running under 12.5 and is now featured in 5.0.

It is my opinion that for a street car torque is where it's at.

If it comes on early in the rpm range, is flat & wide, as well as hang in there until about 5k, then you've got a real fun car to drive on the street.

Some, not all, 300 and plus rwhp cars have torque curves that are peaky and they are more suited for the strip than for the street.

I do confess that it would be nice to be able to say that I'm putting down 300 or better to the wheels.

Matt95GTS (MattZ281LE on Stnagnet) above AVERAGED 295HP from 2,000 all the way through 6,000 rpm - read his comments about driveability in that link above.

Hi Tom

If you remember, you and I have made remarks about this car before and it is a good example of what I think makes a fun street car.

I would say to the readers who have not seen his dyno pull you should do a search and take a look. I think it's on this board as well as the Corral.

I think there is quite a few people on here that have past the 300 barrior with no power adder. I did but i guess a stroker doesn't count  Even though i had 342 which is still equivalent to over 1 rwhp for every cubic inch. I believe HairyCanary has over 300 rwhp also.

Now as far as iron heads i don't know of anybody but i think it can be done. Most people that have the money to for the good intake and cam go for the aluminum heads...
