New To 5.0's Please Help

I am almost definetely going to be buying a 93 GT, I am new as in know basically nothing about Fox bodies, first can some people tell me about the car, what exact transmission it has and things like would be nice, and also i am already dead set on doing a full exhaust as my first mods (headers, midpipe, and catback) but what should be my next mods, I want this car to run solid 13's, but it will also be a daily driver. Also are there any sites that sell 5.0 parts, I went to Jegs, but that don't have a huge selection, what sites do you guys prefer. And what kind of numbers do they dyno, and what do they run in the 1/4 mile. Sorry for all the questions but I am a newb to the 5.0. Any help, at all is appreciated.

The tranny in a 93 GT 5spd from the factory is a T-5. Also, good luck finding one that hasn't been touched. And if they have been touched, exhaust is usually one of the first things people do to them. So you might be lucky and already get at least a cat-back system on yours. As for your next mods, people are going to tell you different things. Search for "mods" on the forums and you'll come up with a whole slew of things. As for me, I'm kind of in the same boat you are as all i have is a cat-back exhaust. My next mod is either going to be a shifter or an intake manifold. Not sure yet.

Gears next.
I love my 3.55s and first gear is still useable for part throttle driving, but many people go with 3.73s.

Remove the air silencer located on the inside of the right fender (passengers) Free, but effective.

Also convert to synthetic fluids in drivetrain (I like Redline).

An aftermarket shifter like a pro 5.0 or Steeda triax will quicken shifts, especially 2nd to 3rd.

hey noob! welcome to the world of mustangs. as uve already been told, a stang from the factory comes with a t-5 which will be able to support a 13sec daily driver with a good clutch. they come with 2.73 gears stock and 3.73's is also a very good upgrade. when u get your car, do u want to jump to the big mods right away or just do little things as u go? u have 2 options. by the car and save up all your money so when u do the motor u have all the funds u need right in front of your face so if u find out u need something else, u wont need to wate a week untill u get your next pay check to get it. or u get be like most people and buy things as u go like i did. after i got my exhaust, i did a cold air intake, throttle body and egr spacer, and pullies. then when winter came along and i tore the whole motor apart with the intentions of just cleaning the shortblock and buy a new hci setup but then i went and bought a whole new shortblock and just got it recently running after a yr and a half. tell us what u want to do and well be able to help u out with any thing u need

All I want to do is to have a solid 13 second reliable daily driver car, I will probably do one part at a time, put something different on every week or so.
But if I do everything at once, then I already know what I am going to do, Kenne Bell. But I probably won't do that because its just too much money at one time.

id say get all your suspension done and out of the money. many people over look these mods but a full suspension i.e truts and shocks, springs, upper and lower control arms, subframe connectors and a good set of wheels will knock a git of time off your e.t's. plus once u start doin your motor work, it will seem like your getting faster instead of slower because all youd be doin with out suspension stuff is roasting your tires.

Any of you guys have a link to someone's page, or somethin like it, who explains EXACTLY how to bump tha timing... I want to move mine up
Paint the mark on the harmonic balancer with paint -choose 10* or 14* or something else if You have NO2 or other power adder.

Remove the SPOUT connector (do a search if you want a picture of the SPOUT connector) It is the 2 pin rectangular plug on the distributor wiring harness.
Warning: There are only two places the SPOUT should be when you time the engine. The first place is in your pocket while you are setting the timing and the second is back in the harness when you finish. The little bugger is too easy to lose and too hard to find a replacement.

Connect timing light up to battery & #1 spark plug.

Start engine, loosen distributor hold down with a 1/2" universal socket. Shine the timing light on the marks and turn the distributor until the mark lines up with the edge of the timing pointer. Tighten down the distributor hold down bolt, Replace the SPOUT connector and you are done.

Disconnect the timing light and go have fun! :D
