How many of you have Bassani's and are satisfied?

I have the Street Comp cat back. I think they offer the Street Comps standard and you have to special order the Quiet Thunders. At least, that's what my exhaust shop told me. I'd check the part numbers just in case. They also recommend the BX series because they said it would be okay with the weather here.

Seraphitia102, I would hit up ebay and the classifieds in other forums to try to find someone selling a used Bassani cat back.

which is louder, the Street Comp or the Quiet Thunders?

I just ordered a Bassani 2 cat X-pipe :) I just hope my 2 cat X-pipe will sound bad @$$

I changed my mind on the catback since it would be a $1100 modification (parts+custom labor to have it fit my Saleen rear fascia).

Look around for used stuff. Thats what i did. I bought the BX catback off here for $250 shipped and the headers and o/r x on corral for $300 shipped. I got it all for 3rd of the price new. Everything looked new except the headers. I couldn't pass any of it up either. I would of never bought any of it new though. To much $$.

Have always loved my bassani catted X and think you made an excellent choice there. Great fit and finish and still looks brand new after several years underneath. I've had no problems passing emissions also. To tangerine96gt's point, I scan the classifieds and ebay all the time, and haven't found any good deals on catbacks for my 98, so I might just end up welding up a pair of Bassani or Steeda mufflers to my FRPP catback. If you guys spot somthing, I'm always open to a PM :). There does seem to be more used parts for 99+ out there however, so you might want to give the clas' a try to match up the X long term.

I'm glad you like your Bassani catted X :) I was also worried about passing emissions.

Do you know where to buy Bassani mufflers? I wouldn't mind just buying the muffler and welding them on to my existing catback :)

I've dealt with truckperformance.com many times with good experieces and they carry the bassani line, but there are many others out there. Only problem I've found with the Bassani mufflers are that they the BX line, so they are aluminized, not SS. That's why I was leaning towards Steeda Weld-ins as they are SS and made by borla.

You won't be able to pass emissions with a X pipe in Cali. Believe me I've tried. They'll just turn you away. You'll need the factory H pipe to pass. Which means you have to swap pipes before each test. Its a PITA!

you guys passed with the bass catted xpipe?

when i went to sell my cobra the last thing on my mind was if it was gonna pass or not. failed horribly. swapped a stock GT h-pipe from a donor car over and the car passed beautifully. the tech said the cats were still good, but two high flows are just for legality purposes, as one high flow cat per side cannot scrub enough NOx or CO2 as two cats per bank can, i guess one cat does NOx and one does CO2 or something, and they work in combination, and making one crappy cat do the job is useless. made sense, i mean, it went from two high-flow cats failing horribly to stock and passing beautifully.

Did you fail miserably on the sniffer? Or did the smog person fail you miserably on the sniffer and visual?

I've been passing yearly for many years now with the catted bassani in NY both visual and emission readings. The following numbers are from the latest emissions numbers from the garage. I don't play any games either i.e. bringing it in hot, using additives etc...

HC Limit 0.60 actual 0.26
Co Limit 10.00 actual 1.7
NOx Limit 1.50 actual 0.21

Now having said that I have the old one piece Bassani X, so things may have changed since they upgraded to the modular style. Hopefully some more CA/NY people with catted X's can join in here - both tough on emissions.

Does NY test smog at 15 and 25mph? Those are pretty descent numbers.

I know a smog station that will overlook the visual inspection as long as I can pass the sniffer portion.

Hopefully, it passes. If not, then it's time for... some unspecified action.

Just save your stock mid pipe and re-install when it comes time for smog

No need to go to the Unspecified action

F.Y.I. I have had friends get cars impounded when the Unspecified actions were discovered by the authorities... no need to risk it.

The stock midpipe takes up so much room though.

Can't I just install another couple of cats? lol :rlaugh:

This is what we have to adhere to.... Short answer is yes, we used to be able to get away with just being measured at idle, but no more.

"A High Enhanced emissions inspection is required for vehicles registered in the nine county New York Metropolitan Area (NYMA) of Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, Westchester, and the five counties within New York City, The purpose of this inspection is to measure the amount of hydrocarbons, oxides of nitrogen, and carbon monoxide pollutants coming from the vehicle exhaust. The High Enhanced emissions inspection includes a Simulated driving condition test (on a dynamometer) for gasoline powered vehicles, 1981 model year and newer, that weigh 8,500 pounds or fewer. An "idle emissions test" (engine at idle only) is required for gasoline powered vehicles that weigh more than 8,500 Pounds, are less than 26 model years old, and were manufactured for the 1980 model vear or- older."
