So, I'm thinking about the next car I will buy around 2009 or 2010. I'd like to buy something that is sporty, but gets good gas mileage, and carries the FORD nameplate. So, what do I buy? Mazda MX-5 comes to mind.

dunno

I don't know about that.

With all the sucess that the Sky and Solstice are having I think that if Ford put out a flashy looking roadster it would sell. Especially if they put out something with decent performance and put the Shelby name on it.

I don't know...the Sky/Solstice is dang near as big as a Mustang, costs more than a V-6 Mustang 'vert and only gets a mile or two per gallon better mileage...

I don't see how anyone could make a business case for Ford to build something else that's so near in specs to something they already make...

LOL the Solstice is a TOTALLY different car than a V6 mustang. They are aimed at a demographic that couldnt be further away.

The V6 mustang, especially vert is geared for people (ladies :) ) who want the mustang look and convertible but dont care about performance.

The Solstice is a sports car geared at the person who wants a car that handles like its on rails with the top down. Its a weekend toy car. Most people who have a Miata or Solstice also have a second car or they are young and single.

For example just look at the % of Solstices and Skys sold with Manuals and then compare that to the % of V6 Vert Mustangs with sticks. I bet its 85-90% on the Solstice and 10-15% on the Mustang.

Also as far as pricing, you are WAY off. The base solstice is $21,515 and when you add the normal options they have its $24,225. The base on the Deluxe Mustang is $24,075 and the Premium is $25,020 with no options at all.

The Mustang is also 30 inches longer, 3 inches wider, 5 inches taller, and 500lbs heavier. But yeah they are close to the same size :)

**** anything with a shelby badge on it, it instantly adds a 20k+ markup.

if anything, they need to bring back a 2 seater roadster with the Thunderbird nameplate, use a 4.6l 4v motor mated to a 6spd with irs out back and mazda tuned suspension. make it look really good and price it around 30-35k and it would sell.

ya OK...whatever...you've never seen one parked next to a Mustang then right?

and never looked at real prices at the dealers either

still wouldn't make business sense for Ford to make something like that with the Mustang in the lineup

anybody who pays 5K more than msrp (so like 7K over invoice) is a fuggin retard that deserves to have their money taken. NEVER pay sticker. if they wont sell it go somewhere else. somebody will make a good deal even if it takes a while.

the solstice and sky performancemodels will romp on the stang 9 ways from sunday in every aspect, there is no way ford would build a similar vehicle that would pound its beloved stang. i wish ford would make some better cars but everything they kick out weighs a hell of a lot more than it should and doesn't make enough power.

get rid of the backseat and one would be close with this. I would love to see this car with a 4 cylinder turbo motor and suspension to go along with it. Focus Convertible
