My firewall broke out around my clutch cable. Has anybody had this problem and is it possible to plate the firewall and tack weld around the plate. I have a steeda cable, fire wall adjuster, and quadrant. PLEASE HELP
Thats what i would do. Just tack a new piece of sheet metal on there. I have to ask, How much clutch petal pressure was there be fore it broke? I bet it was a bear to push in. or so your car all rusted out?
I think someone makes a reinforcement plate with a FWA on it, but a thick steel plate around the firewall should fix it; even rivets should be ok to hold it on. Take the upper intake off and that should give you some room to work with.
I heard of the firewall cracking and flexing... but did it bust all the way through?
yea man she broke out good ,no rust though -its gotta king cobra clutch and it was a real bear to push lately my clutch adjustment has moved around one time you push the pedal and it engaged at the top the next at the bottom now i know why thanx for the reply
I just picked up an 89' GT and it's cable was pulled through as well. I just put a temp plate in to make it work until I fix the firewall. I am not sure what's wrong with the clutch, but it sucks!!
Sorry i didnt take any pics but thanks for the help. What i did was got a piece of 1/8 thick steel and cut and fit it over the hole.I had to notch for throttle cable and trim off one corner for the booster.I attached it with #12 sheet metal screws after i bored the hole for fwa.I made sure to check for proper cable alignment into quadrant groove.Painted my plate black and fwa is anodized blue it turned out pretty well, almost looks aftermarket.and now my clutch works like dream no more standing up on it.AGAIN THANK YOU GUYS FOR THE HELP!!!!! Oh by the way i had a buddy add some small stitch welds with a tig rig at the corners.
This does happen but i would call promotion in florida they sell a kit to reinforce this area and it's also suppose to improve the feel of the clutch. He sells them for $80 some bucks last i talked to him. Heres a link to him he knows his stuff he has built several of the trans in the NMRA cars! ProMotion Powertrain peace
Thanks i will surely check him out. Several people told me someone made a kit but no one could tell me who. I would like to fix it right this is my first ford of any kind and love it, I got it at a steal and its a pretty nice car not beat up or ragged out. Im new on here as well but the support has been great. You folks are wonderful about helping me learn these cars. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!
