Alright guys I just bought my second mustang, a 1995 mustang gt conv. I know the difference between a cobra and a gt, and my car is a gt. Well I went to get insurance on the car and the insurance company is telling me that the vin # is for a 1995 mustang cobra convertible. After arguing with them for about 30 min I said just write the policy up. Well when I called the secretary of state they also said that my stang is a cobra. The color matches the vin and I checked the title to the car and they match. Any ideas?

Yeah, unless something fishy's at work, maybe it's a previous auction buy like a stripped theft recovery or something and a private dealer cheaped out like they always do and didn't replace anything with Cobra parts, or maybe it was the previous owner for whatever strange reason. I can't for the life of me right now remember which one right now but one of my rear suspension pieces was stamped cobra, maybe check them out to see if yours is too, sounds like you know most of the other differences...The hood's are the same between cobras and gt's, unlike the 96+'s which going by your screen name you may be thinking of. The rear cobra bumper on a 94-95 does not say cobra on it, it says mustang just like the V6's, and I'm sure you already know about the valve cover cobra mfng. sticker, and the cobra sticker on the booster, the brakes, air bag, computer, cluster, e-brake leather, and so on...

Ya I just emailed the guy I bought it from and asked him if he knows anything about it coming up as a cobra. O ya I had a 98 cobra before my wife and kid moved out to camp Pendleton with me. I also was wondering if it truly is a cobra should I go to the extent of replacing all the gt stuff with cobra stuff?

And some show-off pics couldn't hurt either :) I feel ya on this though. The guy who I got my gt from put all cobra emblems on, and replaced the rear bumper with a 96-98 cobra bumper. Doesn't fit properly at all and looks terrible. But this guy was also the car guy from hell. Taking a bolt from here to put it there....

If your decklid does not have a brake light built into it, its a cobra.. This is one of the most suble, but absolute dead giveaway.
Cobras have cobra logos EVERYWHERE... brake booster, intake, steering wheel, emblems, brakes, rear diff, etc..
it should also have an oil cooler, 160 mph speedo, etc..

but odds are, it has been rebuilt and they must have installed teh dash/vin plate out of a cobra..

i bet turbogt is exactly right.

but ... since it has a cobra vin, however it happened to get there, it is legally a cobra now. insurance companies and the legal authorities are always going to see it as a cobra.

even if maybe it doesn't have all the cobra parts and maybe didn't come out of the factory as a cobra, it is one now. so he should not be flamed if he turns it into the cobra he is paying insurance for.

I had a friend in high school who wrecked so many fox bodies, he didn't even bother reregistering a new one everytime he bought it. He just kept sticking the same VIN tag in the new car. This goes on more than you think.

Here are some pictures of the stang. Yes I know it doesn't have a rear view mirror, my 2 year old poled the old one off. I'm trying to find some 03-04 cobra seats for the stang because the leather is dried out in the front seats and top of the rear seats. As you can see it's not a cobra.
