I need to know where I can find a 302 long block that can safely handle as much as 1000 HP maybe more. Its for a forced induction build the only thing is I would like to know if it's cheaper to go with a 4.6 or a 302. I know the turbo kit for the 302 is cheaper that the kit for the 4.6.

will that big block fit in my sn95 and if i go that route should i go with a twin screw or centrifugal type or turbo what kind of number would it make on the dyno and can i get a link for the crate 427

Thanks Cody

my budget is about 15 thousand i just want to get rid of the v6 and get something with a little more balls i would like to run mid to high 9s and i know its possible but i also want to do something different like forced induction

A properly built Dart longblock from an engine builder capable of handling 800+ hp will run you around $9k+. Then you still need to add all the top end parts, accessories, and a power adder. A Dart 363 with methanol and a PT88 will push you close to the 1000hp mark. I'm building a Dart 331 setup (RNH longblock) with meth and a PT76 that should be in the 700-800rwhp area. To be realistic, your budget of $15k won't be enough to even cover the entire engine/power adder with all supporting accessories. $25k is probably a more realistic budget. I have an excel sheet with a laundry list of parts that I need. The list still has $15k worth of parts left, and I already bought the engine, transmission, and have a shell that everything is going in.

Putting that much power is a car causes a chain reaction of money spending, and it all adds up extremely fast. You have a 1000hp engine, but you need to tune that engine. You want all that power to get to the tires without tearing the car in half, so you need chassis modifications. Your drivetrain will also need to be completely rebuilt. Brakes will need to be upgraded. If you want to legally run 9's at the track, you'll need a whole slew of safety upgrades including a full cage. It goes on and on and on. Good luck!

You could make a big block engine with a lot of nitrous in that power range for $15K, it's not impossible. What's your budget for the rest of the car? You're going to need a lot of suspension work to get into the 9s. You're looking at about $2K worth of cage to be legal, chassis stiffening. You could probably get a rearend that could handle that used for around $1K. What kind of transmission are you thinking of?

I don't know about that. There are plenty of 1000hp 4.6s out there, but they are all borderline experimental. It's going to cost a fortune to get a 4.6 up to those kinds of power levels.

I've thought about a big block I just dont want to run the risk of scattering the motor the first time I miss a gear. You have to admit it weve all done it inless you have an automatic. As of now I dont know what the rest of the budget for the car is I figured I would tackle the motor first and get that out of the way. I'm looking at UPR's front and rear end kit with afco double adjustable coilovers on the back and QA1 single adjustable struts on the front. I also thought about an 8 point cage but I dont know if I need more than that. I dont know about the chassis stiffening or rear end. I haven't got a chance to look into it. I do know I would like to run a manual trans preferably 6 speed

Not sure about the manual transmission. For a good track 6 speed, it's got to be a T-56. There are some B&M hot rod 6 speeds out there, but I don't think they shift fast enough or can handle that kind of power. There are some T-56 setups that are run to that power level. You're probably looking at around $5000 for a T-56 that can handle that kind of power with a matching clutch and flywheel. An Automatic could be setup for about half that. If you built a solid 408cid small block with a ton of nitrous, you could get 800 to the wheel for under $15K on the engine budget. You don't have to worry about missing a shift with the nitrous. You can get a good ignition rev limiter that will safely limit engine rpm. Then you just get a nitrous window switch that cuts the nitrous off below that rpm. That's how I have my car setup now. I've missed a few shifts before, and never had an issue. I used to hold the pedal to the floor all the way down the track with the nitrous on and shifting. I did it without a window switch and never had an issue.
