hey guys i know this has already prolly been covered a bazillion times but i want some fresh opinions from both sides. im looking for an 01+ 5spd GT and have come across quite a few verts in my area so im considering that as an option. the car is basically a taking over the daily driver duties that i might mod later so im curious to see how much the vert suffers in performance compared to the coupe and if there are reasonable aftermarket remedies to help out with its flawed design.

    thanks!

Its true a vert weights more than a coupe, maybe 250lbs or so. But if you get some full length subframe connectors they are darn near as tight as a coupe.

Looks are subjective but you can always make a vert look better but you cant drop the top on a coupe.

I just traded my fully bolted and PI swapped 98 GT coupe for a 01 GT vert stock and am very happy with my decision.

the vert weighs about 150lbs more. you can always make a vert faster. if you like driving with the top down, get a vert. it's as simple as that.

im actually more concerned with handling than power to weight ratio.

If you want a vert, get the vert. If I myself was in the market, I would probably look for a vert myself. Sure it weighs a little more, and the chassis isnt as stiff, but I like most others dont drive their stang all out 100% all the time. Most of the time, I drive pretty easy and in this type of driving, I'd rather have the vert especially on a nice spring day or summer night.

If you are concerned about handling then get the coupe. Cutting the roof off of any vehicle requires a lot of compromise in the structure of the car. Mustang's don't handle all that well stock, even in coupe form, then if you cut the roof off :owned:

yeah thats kinda what i figured. the top down on a true blue lowered light bar equipped GT makes me happy but idunno if its happy enough to deal with all the downsides.

And the top is expensive to replace and hard to maintain copared to a painted roof. I just bought a coupe so you know what I think!

I went from an 01 GT Vert, to the 04 Cobra Coupe, and I can honestly say I would never buy a vert again. The novelty wore off quick. The sloppy body roll, plus extra road noise isn't worth it to me. Maybe for a weekend cruiser or something, but never one that I would mod.

You mean like the one in my sig?:nice:

Get the ****ing vert. No question. Coupes are everywhere. Everyone loves to ride in a convertible. I LOVE having the roof down. The car attracts so many more compliments. I never ever want to buy a hardtop sports car after owning this car.

As for the handling thing, add full length subs and a STB and its not going to make any difference at all.

I drove a bunch of cars before I bought mine (LS1s and GTs, coupes and verts). The two cars I ended up choosing between were both verts. Drive the vert yourself and see what you think.

:bs: My vert top is way easier to clean and look after than my BMWs roof. Once a year Raggtop and then they clean up REALLY easy. You never need to wax it either.

Like 007 said, there are a few chassis stiffening items that will make a vert darn near as still as a coupe.

i had full length subframes on my vert, and I also have full length subframes on my Coupe. No comparison. The Coupes wins hands down.
