My buddy just bought a 2005 mustang gt new 2 months ago it has 5700 km on it now, so today we took it for its first oil change at the dealer. we got it done picked up the car drove 5 minutes to the mall. When we came out and started the car it sounded like it was knocking or there was alot of "clacking"
coming from the engine/transmission area. Its a 5 speed bye the way. you can really here it when kneeling down by either front wheel not so much comming from the hood. Kind of sounds like a diesel. anyway they tried to say it was the injecters and I laughted because yes they make noise but thats not the thing its doing. they made a call and got told to change the oil again hahaha so they did and it does the same so they said they have no clue and to not worry and drive it till they here of more problems. needless to say he or I will never go back there and are going to a new dealership monday.

This is why I do my own oil changes. I havent even taken my car in for any TSBs because I'd rather just deal with it. BTW I used a fram on my first oil change and I didn't have any problems. I switched back to motorcraft just for piece of mind. I doubt a ford dealer would install fram anyways.

no it was a ford filter and 5w-20 oil. the temp around here is about 75-85 in the summer. anyway they changed it a second time I stood in the garage door and watched them do it. I am a Journeyman Millwright by trade although not a car mechanic but when the guy says its the injectors and no way will they listen to you that gets me angry. the injectors make a ticking noise this is a loud clacking or Diesel sound from the bottom end I told them. also the dipstick was on the full the first time. it had nothing to do with them changing the oil I dont think, Well not adding enough because that was ok it was full. Its just they have no idea what it is they stood around the car for 3 hours looking at it and calling ford. I was just wondering if anyone elses car is doing this.

my car is pretty loud, especially listening from behind the front tires. i passed it off as normal. does sound a bit loud though...
That is quite typical of modulars. You're probably like me -- sensitive ears. A lot of people don't hear it. But I've never seen a modular that didn't rattle a bit.

wouldnt that be pinging???cars usually dont ping at idle.

Same thing, and I agree, cars don't usually ping at idle. Using a tank of 91 octane gas would be a relatively cheap way to narrow the problem down.

quick google search:

"Q: What is engine knock?
A: Engine knock is a sharp metallic noise, sometimes referred to as engine clatter or pinging, caused by the pre-ignition of fuel as it's compressed in the cylinder, milliseconds before the normal spark plug firing."

"The octane rating of gasoline tells you how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites. When gas ignites by compression rather than because of the spark from the spark plug, it causes knocking in the engine. Knocking can damage an engine, so it is not something you want to have happening. Lower-octane gas (like "regular" 87-octane gasoline) can handle the least amount of compression before igniting."

"The Antiknock Index, commonly referred to as Octane, is a measure of a gasoline's ability to resist preignition, or engine knock."

Might I suggest a more extensive Google search? Because with a "quick" one, you turned up a definition that is completely wrong.

Here you go, a much more accurate definition of detonation and pre-ignition. http://www.streetrodstuff.com/Articles/Engine/Detonation/

I'd also recommend editing your post and deleting that quoted information, so people who just peruse this thread will not be "educated" with false information.

Mine make a lot of "diesel" noise as well. I have read that getting the latest software update from ford may help the problem. It sure does not give the owner of one of these engines that they have a precision built engine by any means. Could it be because the block is aluminum and transfers noise more easally? Some of you Cobra owners out there might be able to answer that question!

You may want to use some better weight oil, a good 5w30 or even 10w30 wont hurt.

My buddy had a Lightning that after 2000 mi sounded like a diesel when you cranked it up, but after it got good and hot it sounded normal. SVT came in and replace the entire engine. Upon breaking the old engine down they found that the piston(s) were at the smallest diameter of tolerence and the block was bored to the the highest tolerence. It was piston slap making all the racket!

There was 91 octane put in it that day. I have a 99 cobra with 73000 miles and it doesnt sound like that and I drive it hard. I was just wondering if anyone else with an 05 gt has had a problem like this because where he bought the car they have only sold a handfull of gts so they never seen the problem or realiy any problems with the newer engines yet, thanks.

i am getting a knocking at around 4500 to 5500 rpms at wot...i think it was the gas...i just filled her up with sunoco 94 and will check her out later...maybe its my tune not too sure..the thing is it doesnt always happen thats why i think it the gas ive been getting. the sound seems to be coming from the lower half of the motor and it sounds like if you shook a can with some bolts in it

yup its not that...im pretty sure its was the gas...i beat on it last night like a red headed step child with a full tank of sunoco 94 and it sounded great not a noise...must of just been bad gas...problem is that sunoco is so far out of my way. i need to find a closer one
