i want to buy a car from the states. it was originally a canadian car and he took it from the canada to the states. say the car costs 6000 american, what am i lookin at for taxes and BS like that. anybody know?
well i would say no more then $12,000 cad but shipping the car is what im not too sure about....the best time to buy it is now!!!!...the cad dollar is is at its closet to the usa dollar!!!!
Bringing a car over isn't what most people think. I know a guy who bought a Mitsubishi this summer. Only cost him the taxes and some duty. If the car is made in the state no duty only taxes.
Check out this link http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_import.html I looked into it a couple years ago and basically the vehicle has to meet Canadian standards,it will be subject to a couple of inspections before it can be licensed and the taxes have to be paid. Also it is important that you have the paperwork in order before it crosses the border.
you would have to call the RIV on that, you may not even have to pay the GST/PST if applic there....
Last year this time, i bought a 94 vette, the car cost me 14500 CDN, and the flight, gas, food, taxes, inspections duty, all ended up being around 5K.
BTW, the trip back was quick, the speed limits there are 75mph, and everyone is going atleast 80. My GF and I made it from vegas to helena in 12 hours.
