cutting tailpipes off

i have a 90gt, are there any downsides to cutting the tailpipe off behind the muffler? (they are flowmasters)

As long as you use turn downs behind the mufflers to flow the exhaust away from the floorboard, it should be fine.

I ran for years with no pipes and no turndowns.

Other than the fact that it is loud both inside and outside the car I had no problems.

I found that out when I got my 88 coupe. It has dumped flowmasters and the car is not nearly as loud inside as my 91 with just mufflers was.

dumps would be worse I think, because the sound is bouncing off the ground and coming right back up vibrating the floor pans, and alot mroe noise. I have no tailpipes after the mufflers but dont have turn downs, its not that loud inside the car and its veryu loud outside, i have no problem with it, i love it and prob will never consider tailpipes again.

yeah dumps are louder in the cab, my 95 had em and I loved it, now my 86 has pipes, and they are about to get the ax!!!

I love dumps on a gt, but on a lx imo they look naked w/o some pipes exiting the back. Of course I'll probably wind up cutting mine off to go faster or fit wider tires over looks eventually tho.

I HATE dumps with a passion. Hate the look and hate the sound.

Personally at least run a dump. Why heat up your rear end with the exhaust aimed right at it?

never had a problem with mine heating up the rear end..dosent even really point at it.

I love it but it kicks up the dust quite a bit!
