DIY Shifter T-Handle ( 20 Pix )

It was rainig outside this afternoon so I decided to mak a "T" handle for my recently installed TCI ratchet shifter. I looked around the garage and found some scraps of clear and black plexi glass. I glued them together with Contact cement and shaped the handle when the glue set.

This is what I wanted it to more or less look like.

The plexi scraps....

Apply the Cement...

Clamp till dry...

While the glue was setting I made a wood mock-up...

Traced the shape onto the plexy bundle...

Drilled out the finger notches..

Cut the basic shape on the band saw...

Shaping on the belt sander...

And a small drum sander...

Hand sanded with 320 grit and 600 grit wet paper..

Rubbing compound, then polishing comnpound...

A final buffing...

Drilled the hole to mount on the shifter shaft...

Tapped the hole (3/8 - 16)

Finall installed in the car...

There are layers of Black and Clear plexi to make the thickness I wanted.

Took me about 3 hours on a rainy day...

Not perfect, but clos enough.

I did think about that style but I didn't think the plexi would hold totegher tapped in the end like that. But if I decide to install a "line lock" I might make another one with a button someplace like that one.

It was mostly something to kill a rainy day...

hell. i'm starting to rip apart a car right now that i was gunna sell, just because i want to have a project and don't really have anything into the car.

I made a pair of pistol grips out of pvc pipe with a sawzall and grinder once. It is amazing what you can make with a lil ingian in you.

Yeah, I get a big kick out of fabricating stuff just for grins.

The radiator cover is doing fine, so I got a SS battery cover and jewelled that too it's kind of a nice touch under the hood.

They look funny (knowing they are Stang wheels) while at the same time look decent. The thing that makes them look out of place is that they are still wearing the 235/55-17 tires...hehehehe

I just discovered a typo in the reply above, I should have said I got a "SS Fuse box cover"

Yeah they do look a little odd, but I needed new tires for the Jeep and had two sets of 17" Mustang Wheels and tires sitting around doing nothing. So I can live whith the strange looks.

My other set of wheels and tires is in our classified section for sale cheap.
