Ford "execs" are shooting themselves in the foot. Aftermarket parts will still be around either by name or in generic packages with code words. The way it is, they're getting tons of free advertising. If they want the very use of thier name to be licensed, they can forget name recognition from then on. I've got ideas for new adjectives for the company and car.

So this means obviously that Ford is gonna sue Boeing for the rights to the P-51 Mustang...

And rumor has it 'stang' and 'pony' will be next... and it will not only be the aftermarket companies, but even Magazines and Websites.

So basically Stangnet will be something like...

I am debating whether or not to buy a Cervinis Cobra grill insert, as this will be a copyrighted chrome plastic Running horse emblem that might pique the interest of Ford Lawyers...

If I stick the the current "Blue Oval" (Pss. Can i even say Blue Oval?) Well anyways, if I stick to the Blue Oval the Lawyers will be less likely to sue me correct?

yeah i didn't read all the post. but i got the just of it.

if ford patents the use of the word "mustang" and whatever else.

then i can see Paris Hilton patening the use of the word "thats hot!"

This is seriously the dumbest copyright law I've heard of since Michael Buffer coprighted the saying "Let's get ready too rumble!" (disclaimer: Michael, please don't sue me if you read this. I will gladly edit this post.)

I don't understand how Ford can lay claim to the word "Mustang" when it's been around longer than the company. If they want to be that way, every Mustang that comes off the line should have the little circled R next to the emblem.

The word Stang could never be included in this lunacy if it's a slang term invented by enthusiasts. They don't own it, we do!! And if I ever catch them using it for commercial purposes, I will sue!!

Seriously, I think this is a desparate attempt by Ford to generate money. They are in trouble right now, and are making some poor decisions.

Dear "That which must not be named",

In order to be fair, since you own the word "M*stang", you must also own many other words. I have compiled a list of people that are using your words so that you may sue them and get richer. Here goes:
