Do you have a auto. or 5 spd.?

I am looking into gears, but can't decide between 3.73's and 4.10's.

And I have an auto. by the way.

the car list of mods is now...

    D&D rebuilt T5
    FMS king cobra clutch
    MM cable, fwa, and Quadrant
    BBK off road H pipe
    flowmaster 40 series
    FMS 373's gears

Stuff in my basement that is waiting to be installed!

    AFR 165's
    FTI custom cam
    Performer rpm intake
    FMS 24# injectors
    FMS 65 mm t-body

One of the reasons i think I'm spinning in second is its really cold here in Michigan and for gas millage i run a high psi in my tires, I'm hoping some air taken out will get me some traction on them hard 1-2 shifts

It seems like my car doesn't do well in the winter time cause of cold pavement.

    I have similar mods.

When it warms up, my tires seem to hook alot better.

So no worries. till you get rest of your mods installed, then street tires wont cut it.

Gears and lowering springs should be mandatory for these cars...

If you are running a z rated tire they pretty much suck below 32'F... This is one of the reasons I run the General UHP, it is more of an all-season tire than anything else...

The 3.73's are great aren't they? :nice: I had to go with drag radials because I couldn't hook up at all in 1st and 2nd. I still have problems hooking with them in the Pennsylvania winter. The gears make a big difference in off the line kick though.

And a tune to make sure the computer allows the tranny to shift properly with 4.10s. Kind of an important factor we've discussed on here many times.

True ... a steeper ratio will break loose more easily :(

    BUT

They allow you to regain control more easily :)

yeah, im sure it will spin more easily but hookup quicker at the same time. second now will spin for a little bit then sort of hook up and slip the clutch lol. cant wait to put some 3.73s in my car.

ddstang, if i lived near you i would tell you to bring your parts and car over and put your hci together. it would be a fun weekend project.

Is there a speedo gear that matches up to are cars with 3.73's?? I thought 3.55's was the highest you could go without the speedcal or something. Been waiting about 5 years now to get the gears I just want my speedometer to be exact.

Changing the final drive ratio doesn't change the optimal shift points though.
