Since were in a 'depression' some people are asking way too much for their cars; as some people do regardless of the economy.

There are deals to be had, you just have to do some searching (and you may have to drive a ways too).

Saving for a V6, then swaping the V8 is one way to go, but I don't see the point in basically 'buying' 2 engines.

I was in your position before, just keep looking and do your research and you'll find a good 'stang for ya.

Resist the V6 to V8 swap at all costs. Just keep saving, you'll get there.

Too bad mines an auto. I'm on the other end of the scale on mine. I have three d**ks a week wanting to trade their Honda for it. Been trying for about 2 months, now.

x2...especially since I just did that swap. It's a big PITA, a lot more work that it's worth, especially since you're looking to buy a 'Stang. I did the swap 'cause I have a LOT of sentimental meaning sunk into that Mustang, too much to give it up at any price. Since you don't have that kind of emotional sink into a vehicle yet, just hold on to your cash and keep looking.

I am , What do all you think if ya had the option of a 5.0 or a 4.6 what would you go with i still love those push rod motors .
    I dont think i want a 4.6 . What year was the last 302 96? 97?

Also im scared to get theese cars with mods done to em because i know how i used to drive my old stang.

1995 was the last year with a 5.0 in it. I honestly wouldn't resist going 4.6 now that they have a pretty substantial aftermarket (they didn't when I picked up my 95).

    '94-'95 302 (5.0L) OHV 215hp
    '96-'98 281 (4.6L) SOHC 215hp (225hp in '98)
    '99-'04 281 (4.6L) SOHC PI 260hp

1995 was the last year of the pushrod engine in a Mustang. In stock trim they run about the same as a '96-'98 GT power wise. The '99-'04 Cars wore PI heads and intake and bumped the horsepower another 35-45hp over the previous SN95 models.

Which car you get is all going to depend on personal taste. If you're stuck on a 302, your only choice is a '94-'95. If you like the early aero nose style SN95, then you get to choose between the '94-'98 models. If you want the most stock power of the bunch and like the sharper edges, you'll go with a '99-'04 model

Personal preference aside, only one thing is for certain. You're always better off going for the lowest mileage, newest car you can afford, regardless of the power train.

there are good deals out there, just keep looking. I bought my most recent 95 for $700 with a bad motor! With paint, body work, and motor and other mods I will be pretty close to 5k! More fun than just buying a $5k car. Its more work though!

man i see autos cheap all day... i personally would probably rather see someone scoop up an auto and then down the line swap the tranny instead of swapping a v6 to a v8... as stated before its a PITA and could get costly... where as the tranny swap isnt as bad... just my .02

Use a 351 block, so you don't end up with another cracked block/sold car story to tell. :D

The prices look high, but come with cash and low ball the crap out of people. If they list at 7, and you will pay 5, offer 4000 cash. If they laugh, walk away.

You have to be mercenary when it comes to buying used sports cars that you know have been beaten on a little bit. Mustangs don't hold value whatsoever but people do get attached to them, thus the high listing. Always remember its a 14 or 15 year old car with likely more then 100,000 miles. Don't compromise, its a buyers market.

Those 4.6s aren't bad. I just hate working on them. There is no room anywhere in that engine bay.

I guess it all depends on your definition of "working on"? I would hate to attempt a cam, or head swap on one with the engine still in the car, but I'll take an intake swap, or spark plug change with a 4.6L SOHC over a 5.0L OHV any day of the week! :D
