Im thinking of replacing my motor mounts on my '66, 289. The ones that are in there are pretty old. Do I need to remove the engine to do this or just lift it slightly?
It's doable. Use a 2x4 and a jack to lift the motor up slightly, but don't over do it. While you're at it add a bolt through the drivers side mount for added security.
Thanks fellas, I will do just that, lift the motor up a bit and swap them out. I believe I also have to undo the transmission bolt to let that come up a bit right?
dont remove the trans bolt. just unbolt the mounts from the engine, jack the engine up, and loosely bolt the new mounts in place. lower the engine and tighten down the bolts. you can the replace the trans mount the same way. unbolt the trans mount, jack the trans up replace the mounts, lower the trans, and tighten down the bolts.
