5.4-4v Navigator engine swap?!?

I think this will be a much better swap instead of the 2001 Cobra crate. Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't I see bigger gains from mods due to the greater displacement?

On another note, being a mod motor, it should swap fairly easily??? Any advise would be great!

ok

it makes less top end then the cobra engine.. but lots more torqe.. but it can be fixed.. also it will fit ok.. but your Hpipe will have the be wider.. I think you are better off getting a SOHC 5.4 and getting a cam and new heads.. cheaper more power.. yeah..

It has been done...ill see if i can dig up the old 5.4L navigator swap thread they had a while back. It may have been on corral but i'll look and see. There are some tricky parts including needed a different k-member to get it running. Also, the computer plays a role in the complication too.

If i had a 4v i probably wouldn't bother with the navigator motor id just get the heads ported and polished along with cams and go all out twin screw boost. But since i have a SOHC with limited head potential its worth moving to the 5.4L navigator motor as its relatively cheap compared to the 15k 03 cobra setup and 5.5k dohc 01 cobra setup.

true..or get a 4.6 stroked to 5.3L + twin screw.... :hail2: :hail2:

Its a Navigator 5.4L DOHC swap actually...much better than a 5.4L SOHC...were talking 40 hp just by the heads and a gain in torque. Not to mention more potential with porting and polishing...

Here we go again..........every time I start to get an idea of what path I want to take with my car, another possiblilty gets added to the equation.

Originally, I thought seeing what I could do with an N/A engine would be what I wanted to do. Then I realized an N/A 2V could be a sweet engine, but $$$$$$$ for some big numbers. Then I started thinking about boost, which we know is good for lots of power, but a forged engine is a good idea, leading to the same $$$$$$ scenario.

http://www.karkraft.com/engines.htm <-----

New complete Mach 1 (N/A Cobra) engine (shaker too :D ) = $3000
Navigator (5.4 DOHC 32v) = $3700 That'll need a new intake, modded mid-pipe along with it.

A Mach 1 engine for $3000 sounds better to me than just a forged short block right about now. I'd probably need a computer, and maybe a couple other things. But with the forged shortblock, I'd pay an insane amount for building it up and installing it, and in the short term gain nothing. It would take thousands more to put some boost in it, but in the end I'd have one heck of anengine.

Or a Mach 1 with a little nitrous..............:D

I checked that link. Why the hell are the '01 Cobra engines $2k more than the Mach 1 engines? I thought that they were virtually the same engine. Another quick question: does anyone have a pic of what's under the shaker? I've never seen their intake manifold. Oh wait, one more: how much stronger are the '01 Cobra/'03 Mach 1 engines compared to the stock GT motor? Thanks.

Who knows. The Cobra engines were built by SVT's 2 man teams, I don't know where/how the Mach 1's are built up.

I would think, or at least hope, that the 99/01 Cobra's intake manifold would be on the Mach 1. Most likely a lot cheaper to keep using the same intake instead of develop a new one.

They are definately stronger, of course not 03 Cobra strong, but a good engine. Great forged crank, but still the same GT-style rods and pistons that you wouldn't exactly go crazy on. Not to sure about supercharged performance, but I've heard Cobra engines are good for a 125 shot.
