Sooo i brew my tranny last night(here is the thread), and tryi8ng to think of way to fix theis. Now, i can install T-45(which is weak as we all know), prolly most economical way of get her back on the road. Then there is T-56, and then TKO.
Price of TKO and T56 are pretty close, and i'm wondering if i am to go with TKO500, what is that job consist of, and other then trans itself, what else do i need to have TKO500 to work in my car with speedo and all???

If your going with the TKO, you'll need a new clutch and bell housing to support the 26 spline output shaft. Don't forget that!

He's right, you will need a whole lot more parts for the TKO trans swap. And the T56 is a bolt up trans and its pretty bullit proof, blus with the double OD you could get some great gas milage (which meand a lot these days) Id go with the T-56

but i've heard that if i go with T-56, because it was meant to go on to the car with heck of more power, gear ratios are higher, hense hurts performance in not so highpowered GT??

I'm going to do clutch anyways BTW. might as well since it'll be right there

If thats true, just another reason to get blown.

I talked to a guy I used to work with about this swap. He races a 5.0, and has done many 4.6 builds, and he said that the trans will bolt right up to the engine, but pretty much everything else is different. He said there are T-56 swap kits out there, and if I remember right he said that the trans and kit together would run around 3,000. I dont remember where though.

:stupid: Well yea, a little mod to the harness and you will need a driveshaft, and trans crossmember, but there are many companys making the entire swap kit, usually from $2800-3500

if i go with T-56, i don't really see any hard issue other then drive shaft. I think T-56 drive shaft is shorter by something like 3/4" or so, which i have no idea where to get my drive shaft shorten around here. i don't think i can just use my hack saw can i??
As far as reverse lock out goes, i'm MECP cert. tech(back in my youth), thats easy for me to figure that out. and cross menber, i can elongate the holes on cross member to fit.

Just that i can't find T-56 any cheaper then $1900!!!

Yea, well, a TKO500 is gonna cost you that and then some after the clutch Bellhousing, crossmember, driveshaft, and all other nessesary equipment
you guys dont know what the hell your talking about. the tko if he want the minimum all he has to do is but a bell housing and the tranny to make it work. now if he went the tko600 way he would need a clutch also. the tko 500 is the same ratio as the t-45 so its the same performance just 10 times stronger. with teh t-56 hes going to need to get a new DS for it to work. plus the ratio is lower so hell get better mpg but the performance will go down a little the tko uses teh same cross-member and everything. IMO the tko will be a lot cheaper and more worth it. with the 500 vs. the 600 the 600 is a little more stronger plus the 1st gear is only a 2.87 vs. a 3.27(500) so but then theyre pretty much the same after 1st gear. with a little lower 1st gear you wont be burning the tires as quickly and youll stay in the power range that much more. with 3.90s or 4.10s it is the best combo ever. so 500 is good with 3.73 or 3.90s and the 600 is good with 3.90s or 4.10s. i hope that helps.

Can't you pick up a beefed up T-45 or T-3650 for around $1,200-$1,500? I remember hearing this on another board. I'll have to ask around cause I know a guy whose pushing 400 at the wheels on his GT and just broke his 3650 and I remember him talking about getting a replacement that was good for up to 700 hp.

If you compare the ratios above of upgrading to a T56 from our original T45, You can see they are better for performance...

The 1st gear is longer (that's ok, there is lots of power available on 1st gear, and can be pushed to almost 50mph before shifting), and then 2nd and 3rd are a little shorter than with the 5-speed, so it pushes more!
