Brakes: Best Bang for the Buck...(Under $1k)

i would think that the cobra rears would work better then that baer 13" rear kit, cuz the cobras are vented. I would just do the cobras all the way around.... from your pic it doesnt look like your running very wide tires, so i doubt you would have much if any benefit from the Brembos over the cobras. I would imagine that you would have to have some serious steam rollers in the front to take the full advantage of the brembos

You have the PBR's up front. Swap out the rotors for 13 inch rotors up front and 11.5's out back. Get Akebono ceramic pads and you're done. No need to shell out un-needed money. Especially with a new motor purchase down the road.

I thought it was not possible to use the 99+gt/v6 PBR setup with a larger rotor? OR is there a bracket now? If so WERE....

IIRC the 99+ gt/v6 PBR has a larger twin piston than the cobra but since its on a smaller rotor it does not have the leverage the cobra setup does. IF you can now swap the 99+ gt/v6 caliper to a 13in rotor with a good set of pads you would in theory have a better setup right?

not sure on this logic...many audi guys are running 4 pots on 215-235 tires. As long as the tire has grip, you're fine. I don't think the size matters that much. (obviously running 170mm tires isn't optimal)

your right, you need cobra FRONT calipers to use 13" rotors. there is no kit that i know of.

i think he might be confused with the rear brakes, as the cobra REARS and gt rear calipers are the same, just a different bracket

Brembo pads dust LAMF on my Brembo kit. They also squeel on low speed stopping, but I would not trust anything else on my car when I do agressive driving... Well worth the money.

PBR is the name of the company that makes the caliper. they are based out of australia and are used in alot of OE applications such as cobras/machs/bullits, c4, c6, c6 vettes, 4th gen ls1 f-bodies, gto's, etc...

and no you cannot use 99-up calipers with 13" rotors without major modification.

So My best route financially is a set of cobras with 13" rotors?

Then sell the PBR's cheap.

Or my best route performance-wise is Brembos up front for $900?

Thanks
RC

I want to say the PBR means Power Brake Research or something of the like.

yes the cobra (those are the bullit versions but the same thing) are PBR calipers, basicly ALL mustangs 99 and newer have a PBR caliper...just the cobra/mach/bullit got the good ones.

The "cobra/mach/bullit" kits are just bolt on setups...so you buy them and unbolt your stock stuff and bolt these up in there place, the nice thing about having a 94+ is damn near everything newer that is better just swaps on.
