I don't get too surprised anymore when I dyno my customers cars, I always have an idea of what for power they should make, but the 333ci I just finished really impressed me and I wanted to share.
The combo I felt was going to be very limited since my customer had a very nice custom powder coated Cobra intake that he needed to keep. The combo is for a Show car that see's street duty, so drivablity was #1.

Here's the basic combo...

333ci 10.6:1compression (3.25" stroke, 5.4" rod, .040" bore) stock block based
Stock unmodifed 93 Cobra intakes, with a .5" spacer
70mm Accufab
30lb inj
75mm PMAS bullet
BBK cold air
AFR185 PT#1422 v2 (new style), 1.6 rockers
RNH Performance Custom Cam, hyd roller .550/.570 (My first true custom designed by me, ground by COMP)
1.625" BBK long tubes, full exhaust 2.5"
Full front accessoroes

On a Mustang Dyno it made 360HP/380TQ to the wheels, peaked at 5300rpm! This particular dyno is very conservative and on a Dynojet I would expect it to make 400RWHP....I was totally shocked, and very impressed. The TQ curve is similar to a big inch motor, it comes on low and strong and the car feels like a monster. I'd love to slap a RPMII or Holley on it and see what it makes.

Just wanted to share ;) :nice:

FOR REFERENCE, a 2007 with a Roush Supercharger and full exhaust made 378RWHP

Awesome! The guy who did mine pretty much said the same...and he mentioned the same heads your customer is running and said they'd put me over 400hp as well. That's pretty crazy for a Cobra intake especially at lower RPM.

Good Job Rick, good to see you designing your own camshafts now :nice: I just started reviving mine after 1-2 years of neglect. I just put some MT dr's on, it runs hard :)

I based it off one of COMP N2O grinds that I have had good success with, it seemed to work very well in NA form.

yes it is 89stang1's car and it turned out great, should be tearing up the show circuits this summer.

Mike, glad to see your still kickin around, I may actually start tinkering with my car after I can get ahead at the shop. Trying hard to really make the new shop turn into somthing big, I do anything from rear gears, to complete cars and so far things have been decent even in the slow economy.

The small intake make a beliver out of me on THIS COMBO, I would have never thought it would make those numbers. With that much torque through the curve it just kills the tires at will.

Congrats Rick! :nice:

That's really something. My combo made 362 rwhp before the turbo, which I thought was pretty good for 8.5:1 CR and it wasn't well tuned (hovered over 14:1 AFR). However, that was with AFR205s on a Dynojet, and that was at 6300 rpm. Plus, my combo made 329 ft-lbs of torque.

Rick, something tells me that you and I will do some work together one day. Out of curiosity, if you had your pick of intakes to put on this combo before the cam, what would it be? RPM2, systemax 2, something else?

Chris

What changes did AFR make to the 185s? I might be buying a friend of mine's 333 that was built and never started.....then was flooded by hurricane Katrina...but he was able to get to it quick and fill it with tranny fluid so nothing would rust or get pitted. It has AFR 185s on it that were new when we built the motor in 2005. How do the flow #s differ between the two?

not sure how much better they flow but difference i know is 8mm valves and small diameter springs definitely better heads able to go with higher lift cams with new design

Wow, that is one nice looking engine mang :nice:
I wasnt sure I would like your intake when you first had it done but now that its all together I am really digging it :nice:

The do feature the 8mm valves and different valve train, they flow slightly more but I do not think they will make significantly more power. The biggest difference is the valve train (springs) have more seat pressure and will take more aggresive cams, so it will save $175-200 if you had to swap springs in the past. I know I have 8-10 sets of stock AFR springs at my shop..lol

I believe the specifics between the 2 are on AFR's site

Ive thanked him in person just wanna point out the personal effort he put into my build ive not seen before he took quite a few items off his shelfs when my car needed somethings when my wallet was running out for that im grateful, treated every aspect like it was his own build many little xtras that amount to alot in the end. I'll tell it like i see it lol but by now i can see rick thinkin :Zip2: lol GOOD JOB MANG!!!!!:nice::flag::canada::SNSign:
